On the first floor there are illustrated books and picture books on insects and plants, and wooden car toys for babies. In the back of the room, there are magnificent specimens of insects, and my child, who is interested in butterflies, was very excited to see them. Upstairs there is a creature room where you can freely observe them. I was a bit worried because there was no staff there, but we could take our time and observe. The wide variety of species was well worth seeing. With this fulfilling content, the entrance fee is 100 yen for adults, and free for infants. A wonderful place to feel the healing power of nature and insects✨

Adults 100 yen, children free. There's free parking, but the surface is dirt, so it becomes muddy when it rains or snow melts. It was bad enough for shoes to sink into the mud. The inside of the learning center can be described in one word: wonderful. There are many beautiful specimens. Very educational. On the 2nd floor, various living creatures being raised, such as rhinoceros beetles and stag beetles, were on display. I think adults and children alike can have an exciting time.

My first visit was March 29, 2025. By chance, I learned that the “Winter Northern Insect Exhibition” was being held and that the “live specimen exhibit,” originally scheduled until March 16, had been extended, so I came (since they were displayed in acrylic cases, I didn't describe it as an “ecology” exhibit). Originally, after the former Shirakawa Elementary School closed (merging with Fujino Elementary School), its wooden school building was reused to open the “Shirakawa Outdoor Classroom” in June S51 (then under the Sapporo City Board of Education). Following an organizational transfer, it was renamed to its current name, “Sapporo City Northern Nature Education Park,” in May S62. A new building was completed in February H7 and named the “Learning Center” (the old wooden school building was demolished). The vast grounds of about 5ha contain a hands-on farm and a nature observation forest, while the Learning Center also has exhibition rooms, craft rooms, and other rooms for rent. Admission to the Learning Center is 100 yen for adults (free for junior high school students and younger). The highlight of this special exhibition is undoubtedly the “live specimen exhibit” on the 2nd floor. Even in such a cold winter, the building is kept warm, and I think that's also thanks to the insects in the live specimen exhibit. Thanks to exhibition support from Insect Pro Shop Hide and Hyohon-ya Bunbun and the extension of the live specimen display period, I could see various insects moving around as well as specimens. Thank you.😁🙏
