Many kind of plant but the place is not so big. They have a section for hokkaido plants but in winter most of the plant went dormant so you barely see anything at that section.

Strange plant !

Visited on 2026 (Reiwa 8).5.6. The park is closed and you can't enter the greenhouse, but the rest area, vending machines, restrooms, and accessible restroom in the building are available. The notice board says: "Regarding the suspension of greenhouse opening: The glass greenhouse is closed to the public for maintenance due to aging of the greenhouse. (Period undetermined.) The rest tables and chairs in the greenhouse hall and the restrooms are available. We appreciate your understanding. Botanical Garden." It seems only public access has been suspended, and I assume a certain degree of upkeep of the interior is continuing. I hope it will reopen to the public someday. (There was also a notice in the hall soliciting donations.)

It's not a greenhouse for tourists, so it lacks glamor and has no staged displays, but there are explanatory notes, and with easy-to-understand exhibits organized by region and type, I was able to see precious Hokkaido plants and more. There were succulents and street trees in the greenhouse that thrive outdoors on Honshu, so it was also informative about the characteristics of vegetation in cold regions.

It was decades ago, but I came to this botanical garden with my mother, who passed away this March. For some reason I vividly remembered the greenhouse, and I really wanted to see the greenhouse I had visited with my mother. When I strolled around the garden and finally found the greenhouse, I couldn't go inside because the building had aged, and I felt very sad 😢 I wanted to go inside once more, this place of memories with my mother 😢
