The Japanese ryotei "Elm Garden" in Sapporo is a traditional restaurant with a Japanese garden of about 1,000 tsubo, carrying on 80 years of history as Hokkaido's state guesthouse. While gazing at the scenery of each season, you can enjoy authentic kaiseki using seasonal Hokkaido ingredients. Starting with the "Head Chef's Omakase Kaiseki," which lavishly uses seafood and seasonal vegetables, you can savor flavors unique to Hokkaido such as sea urchin, salmon roe, and shrimp. Private rooms overlooking the garden are also available, recommended for a wide range of occasions such as birthdays, wedding anniversaries, meetings of both families, business entertaining, banquets, and meals while sightseeing. Elm Garden is a fantastic find that perfectly pairs an upscale atmosphere with down-to-earth hospitality. The service is top-notch, making you feel entirely welcome from start to finish. There is a stunning inner garden, which frames a gorgeous backdrop for the meal. Their kaiseki lunch is an incredible way to experience the menu. The outstanding dishes of the set are the incredibly tender Wagyu beef paired with rich, homemade miso, eggplant and potato, and finally the super flavorful bacon, asparagus, and corn crock pot rice. The local ingredients are absolutely fresh, sweet and tasty. It is a wonderful spot for a relaxed yet special afternoon dining experience, and I highly recommend!

View on GoogleBeautiful Hanami Kaiseki Lunch Experience at Elm Garden 🌸 We visited Elm Garden at the beginning of May 2025 during the Sakura Festival and enjoyed the Hanami Kaiseki lunch (10,000 yen per adult and 3,300 yen per child). As its name suggests, the restaurant is set in a beautiful garden filled with blooming cherry blossoms. When the wind blew, sakura petals gently fell across the garden — creating an incredibly picturesque and peaceful atmosphere. The food and service were exceptional — every dish was beautifully presented and full of delicate seasonal flavors. The staff were attentive and courteous, making our dining experience even more memorable. It was truly a perfect spot to enjoy delicious Japanese cuisine while appreciating the beauty of spring. Highly recommended during sakura season! 🌸
