I visited Sun Piazza for the first time using a Donichika ticket. (I moved to Sapporo last spring.) That's when some delicious-looking karaage caught my eye and I bought some. There were different cuts like breast and thigh, with Korean-style honey mustard and yangnyeom, plus unusual varieties like red pickled ginger and ume shiso, along with teriyaki, charcoal-grilled, salads, and more. The breast and thigh had a thin coating like nostalgic old-school karaage mix, and tasted just like the karaage I ate long ago, delicious. Would it make sense if I said it tastes like that karaage at the convenience store chain born in Hokkaido? Anyway, it was exactly my kind of flavor. And the red pickled ginger was a familiar taste for me, being born in western Japan, and I enjoyed it. I can't say it's cheap, but with flavor this good, I'll totally buy it again. Thank you for the meal.
View on GoogleI bought it on the recommendation of a friend from Hokkaido. It's the Sun Piazza branch of Chicken Pecker. It's across from Fuji Megane. I think the bento tastes better when warmed up. The honey mustard was especially delicious.
View on GoogleUnlike the main store, this is a takeout-only shop. Maybe because they use rice flour in the batter, the texture is light and crisp rather than hard and crunchy. Since it's takeout, you often eat it cold, but it stays tender and delicious even after a while. Perfect as a snack with drinks.
View on GoogleA takeout-only shop of the Torisei chain, whose main store is in Shimizu-cho in eastern Hokkaido. The charcoal-grilled chicken was sold out, so I bought karaage and red pickled ginger karaage. Yep, this flavor is delicious. The red pickled ginger karaage had a nice ginger flavor and was tasty too. If you come to Sun Piazza, definitely give it a try. Chicken Pecker nearby also does hamburgers, so definitely try that too.
View on GoogleA Sunday night in Sapporo when my errands ran longer than expected and I had no time to go out to eat. I quickly got takeout from this shop, very close to Hotel Emisia Sapporo where I was staying. 'Karaage / 1,000 yen' Past 7 PM on a Sunday, the display case was almost empty (^_^;). All that was left was one 'assorted karaage' and one 'chicken rice bowl.' I didn't need rice, so I picked the karaage. The karaage was seasoned very simply, lightly salted. But they seem particular about ingredients and frying, and it's definitely delicious. This is exactly what 'simple is best' means. The cuts were thigh, breast, wings, and so on, like a half chicken broken down; there wasn't as much as it looked, and I think about half was bone. Even the 1,000-yen pack was easy to finish on my own. During the day, there are so many cuts with so many seasonings, including spicy ones, that it's hard to choose. They also have menu items like salads, so next time I'd like to come when the full lineup is out and shop while agonizing over what to pick.
