On Sept 18, 2025, my wife and I drove here just before sunset. As hoped, we saw the sunset we loved. It’s another experience that made our one night stay in the Rishiri island unforgettable.
View on GoogleThe Yuhigaoka Observation Deck offers a beautiful view, making it a fantastic spot for nature lovers and photographers alike. On a clear day, you can see Rebun Island in the distance, adding to the stunning panorama of the surrounding coastline and sea. Be prepared for the windy conditions, as the area can get quite breezy, especially at the top of the deck, which only adds to the feeling of being high up in nature. The deck is accessible via manmade steps that lead up from the parking area, offering a short but enjoyable climb to the top. The parking area is free, which is always a plus, though it is unpaved, so visitors should take care when parking, especially if it’s wet. There is plenty of space for vehicles, so finding a spot is usually not a problem.
View on GoogleThe best place on Rishiri Island to view both sunrise and sunsets. Access is easy, even children can make it to the observation platform. While it is not the best view to see Mt. Rishiri, the panorama view of the surroundings make up for it. You can even see Rebun Island on clear days.
View on GoogleVisited this wonderful landmark in winter. A local had been so kind to break trail a few hours earlier halfway up, but then the powder snow rose to waist deep before getting shallower at the top. We soldiered on to the top, slowly but gradually and enjoyed a very windy view of Rishiri and the local hardwear store opposite the observation deck where great specials are to be had on ice shovels and rakes. You can see Hokkaido and Rebun Islands from this point :)
View on GoogleWent up twice as it is just located behind where I am lodging. The second evening was really good as we have a clear cloudless sky, sunset was beautiful
