Their dishes look and taste great. Friendly owner explained it was due to take some time due to the lunch rush but it was definitely worth the wait.

そば処 しずか（北海道羅臼町） An outstanding restaurant I discovered in 羅臼. The handmade 更科そば is white and thin, with a smooth glide down the throat and just the right firmness. Thoroughly chilled in cold water, the soba conveys the care put into its preparation from the very first bite. Especially noteworthy is this magnificent かき揚げ. It's packed with chunks of 紅ズワイガニ, which combine with the sweetness of the onion for an irresistible crisp texture and savory aroma. The accompanying matcha salt pairs wonderfully with it too. The soba dipping sauce is slightly strong and sharp, and I enjoyed the changes in flavor by gradually adding scallions and wasabi. After the meal, the soba cooking water provided a relaxing finish. A flavorful, locally rooted restaurant in harmony with the nature of 羅臼. Worth stopping by during your sightseeing.
