When paying the bill, the staff did not say "Thank you" (ありがとうございます). It is the only place during my 13 days trip in Hokkaido where this happened! He said it to the Japanese family who paid before us, so there might be some different treatment to foreigners. When leaving the restaurant, no one said "Thank you" either. We arrived at 11.30am and got a seat quickly. They intentionally leave some tables empty for social distancing measures I assume. When we left, there was an extremely long queue outside. Food was the pike conger rice set which was quite yummy and similar to unagi, but feels more fatty than unagi.
View on GoogleStaff was friendly. Shop provides self service water station and sea view facing seating option. Ordered conger eel and salmon hotate set - fragrant and fresh. Accepts cash and card payment.
View on GoogleVisited this restaurant twice during our stay in Rausu. As lovers of the grilled eels (who are not?), we can’t wait to try the “black eel rice”, which can only be enjoyed in Rausu as far as we know, and it didn’t let us down. Apart from the rich fish oil, the black eel also has an unique flavour of sea fishes and thicker skin, that was why we visited the restaurant again the next day because we knew we would miss this rice, it is one of a kind. The sea urchins and shrimps of the rice bowl are also very fresh. The sea urchins are incredibly sweet and rich, and I think the shrimps are different from those served in other parts of Hokkaido. The sea snail and flounder sashimi are also amazingly fresh and delicious. We also tried the seaweed ramen, it is quite special and definitely worth a try. The restaurant is clean and has an astonishing view of the northern islands. The food are inexpensive and staff are very energetic and welcoming. Strongly recommended for everyone who visits Rausu.
