Nice portions

The nearby ramen shop was only open until PM3(T_T) I walked in without planning to at 4:30。。 I had 塩トントロチャーシュー麺 (large serving). The チャーシュー was meltingly tender and rich, balanced by the light flavor of the salt ramen. Next time I'll try miso.

I arrived at Memanbetsu Airport on a midday flight, so I went into a nearby restaurant for lunch. Given the time, there were no other customers. I ordered the recommended “トントロチャーシュー”; the flavor options were soy sauce, salt, or miso, so I chose miso. The トントロチャーシュー uses slowly simmered pork cheek, making it tender and falling apart, but unfortunately the meat was cold when the bowl arrived. I thought they should have warmed it a little before putting it on top. The soup and noodles were entirely ordinary.

Located right in front of Memanbetsu Airport, in the same row as the rental car offices. I visited after returning my rental car before boarding Sunday's last flight to Haneda. When I entered, 笑点 was playing on TV, and sitting at the very well-worn counter made me feel as though I was about to take part in filming a Showa-era Japanese movie. The photo shows 豚トロチャーシュー麺 topped with a seasoned boiled egg, but the whole egg is submerged at the back. When ordering, I was told to choose miso, soy sauce, or salt, so I chose miso. I don't normally eat miso ramen, so I can't really judge the flavor, but unfortunately the all-important 豚トロチャーシュー was cold right through to the center, perhaps from being thoroughly chilled in the refrigerator.

It has a good reputation online. ☆こくうまチャーシュー味噌 The チャーシュー and noodles were delicious, but the soup had a strange flavor that I personally didn't care for. ☆半チャーハン The チャーシュー here was tasty too, but the rice was watery,,, disappointing. ☆鉄板ギョウザ Average in terms of taste. It's a highly rated restaurant, but it seems it wasn't quite for me. Especially with the ramen soup, I can sense the maker's dedication, but in the end it comes down to preference.
