We joined the free tour at Tanaka Sake Brewery and found it both informative and enjoyable. As the oldest sake brewery still producing sake in Otaru, it offers a fascinating glimpse into the traditional sake-making process. We especially appreciated learning about the brewery's exclusive unique varieties that are only available in Otaru. The staff were incredibly warm and accommodating. During the complimentary tasting session, the gentleman assisting us shared plenty of interesting insights about the different sakes, making the experience even more memorable. We learned a lot, tasted some excellent sake, and, unsurprisingly, left with a few bottles to take home. A worthwhile stop for anyone interested in Japanese sake and local craftsmanship.
View on GoogleFree entry Sake brewery, you can visit the place during day time. There is a self explanatory tour. It's small but sufficient showing the Sake brewing process.
View on GoogleThe oldest and still running sake brewery in Hokkaido. It is walking distance from minami otaru station. They had a large variety of sake. Also offers free tasting
View on GoogleThis Sake Brewery is approximately a 15 min walk away from the main town. It is relatively hard to find the entrance as it looks very dark inside. But the journey is worth it. Walk to the second level to find a short journey on the sake brewing process. While it was self guided there is a lot of information arojnd that can be easily translated. Walk down to the first floor where there is a selection of Sake that is brewed on site. Some are seasonal selections as well. The friendly store staff will give you a tasting opportunity before buying; as long as you are not driving or cycling.
View on GoogleSince I was driving, I could afford to go further to places that required a lot of walking from my hotel. I always wanted to visit a sake brewery and this brewery is located right in Otaru city. Guided tours available but we didn’t opt for it - we just walked around to see the equipments and to admire the traditional architecture of this brewery. They also provide free sake tasting downstairs at their retail shop - but they’d politely ask if you’re driving. I bought their winter special sake which tasted very clear, clean and delicious. Highly recommended to visit.
