Seafood donburi restaurant

Compact, busy haunt serving rice bowls topped with seafood delicacies from raw fish to sea urchin.

"Takinami Shokudo" inside Sankaku Market, a famous tourist spot in Otaru, is very popular as a gourmet spot where you can enjoy fresh seafood. The menu is lined with dishes that make generous use of fresh seafood unique to Hokkaido, especially local Otaru produce, and the "Ganso Wagamama-don", where you choose 3~4 items to your liking from the 9 most popular toppings, is recommended. This donburi, where you can choose ingredients to your own taste, lets you feel Takinami Shokudo's dedication. Bold yet delicate, generous in volume and reasonable in price. Come and enjoy the bounty of Hokkaido that practically spills out of the bowl! In addition, many photos of colorful seafood dishes are displayed in the shop, so just looking is fun. When you visit…

The place seems popular with tourists. 🍜 The food was okay; the bowl looked full of seafood, but it was mostly rice with some seafood on top. 🍚 Service was acceptable, but the ambiance was not great. 😕 I personally didn't like the seasonal fish seen here. It too fishy for my liking. There are other similar stores further up with more affordable prices and friendlier service.

This restaurant offers incredibly fresh seafood, and we were so happy we chose to come here for breakfast! The menu ranges from sashimi to grilled fish. Our absolute favorites were the Chirashi Don, Hotate (scallops), and the grilled Shimahokke. The shrimp and Hotate were naturally sweet, which really highlights how fresh they are. You can choose between a half or whole portion for the Shimahokke. The staff were friendly and gave nice menu recommendations. The space is cozy with around 10–15 tables. I highly recommend adding this spot to your itinerary!

Visited in July 2026. Otaru, Hokkaido 🇯🇵 Japan. Takinami Donburi at Sankaku Market (Triangle Market) is a small, lively restaurant inside the market. Fresh seafood is displayed right at the counter, and there is always a queue — a sure sign of quality. FOOD: We arrived around 11 a.m. and waited in line for about 20–30 minutes. You order at the counter in advance, so when you sit down, the food arrives almost immediately. We took the large kaisendon set: • A generous bowl of rice topped with salmon, crab, uni, scallops, and other fresh seafood. • Miso soup (you can upgrade to crab miso for +300 yen). Everything was incredibly fresh, bright, and tasty. The portion is large — one set is enough for one person. The sweetness of the crab and the delicate texture of the uni were especially memorable. SERVICE: Fast and efficient counter service. Typical for a popular market spot. VERDICT: Fresh seafood, pleasant market atmosphere, and very good quality. A lit bit expensive, because of tourists.

One of freshest premium sashimi you’ll ever have all in one bowl. I chose their signature Kaisendon and it had a little bit of every seafood from Hokkaido. They have a wide selection of seafood options, all of which are massive portions and incredibly high quality. I highly recommend coming early so you can avoid the long wait due to its limited seating.

We saw a lot of good comments about this restaurant so we decided to give it a try. We got the ticket but we missed our number. We only waited for a little bit to be seated after we informed the staff about it. The seafood in the kaisendon don was fresh but the portion of rice was a bit too much for me. I really liked sea urchin. We also ordered 八角刺身, the fish looked a bit scary and ugly but it was surprisingly tasty. The grilled scallop was also delicious.
