Absolutely rip off. I can’t believe why I stepped in without checking out Google reviews. Maybe I had so good experience so far in Japan and that lowered my guard. 8200 for little food. The quantity of the food definitely doesn’t match the one in the photos. And they don’t taste fresh. That’s the worst.
View on GoogleStopped by for the half melon dessert but was disappointed by an unscrupulous bait-and-switch. The melons on display were plump and they use Shiroi Koibito soft serve here. But what I got served was a really small half melon with not much soft serve. The melon looked like it was too small to sell as a whole fruit so the store decided to cut it up. The small size made it look like there was alot of soft serve. After eating half way, I noticed the lower section of the melon became bitter and soggy. Sigh, turns out not only I got an undersized melon but a bruised one at that. Utterly disappointed with this tourist trap. You won't get any of the prized melons on display. Instead expect the bait-and-switch for their bruised undersized or otherwise unsaleable melon stock to be served.
View on GoogleWe stopped by an Eatery on the way, Uroko Seafood Restaurant, since seafood is the way to go, we gave it a try, and welcome to our first Tourist Trap, ordered a 10000 Yen sashimi platter, which turned out very different then what the Photo menu gave as an impression! One of these rare instances in Japan, were we left not impressed! Ok, the seafood was fresh, (there is a shop below the restaurant selling to locals & tourists alike) and it proclaims to be owned and run by the fishmonger, but I think the chef had a bad day and the server looked barely interested! Oh well, I guess can’t all be perfect!
View on Google3.8 - I had heard from Western reviews that Yubari melon is a must-try in Hokkaido during the summer. After trying it, it was good, but not the best melon I’ve had. Two years ago, I had a non-Yubari melon in Hakodate during autumn, and its flavour, aroma, and sweetness were actually better. Plus, it was a few hundred yen cheaper than this Yubari melon.
View on GoogleTo go by japan’s standards, this restaurant quality is barely above average. And the price definitely a rip-off! We ordered a hefty amount of food to try, with little knowledge of the average price, we fell into their trap. The sashimi fish bowl they serve is with plain white rice (not vinegar rice) and the quality of the fish feels like a to-go bento from the convenient store. Secondly, the sea urchin had a slight bitter after taste and some pieces are darker in colour as if old stocks. We ordered king crab too, we specifically pointed to the 16k yen one, we order had half its portion precooked but the legs all raw…which felt weird as if they trying to cover up something. The only thing delicious is the atka grilled fish. In the end when we were paying, i noticed they charged the king crab 24k yen so i asked why, the waitress told me we ordered the other king crab which was 24k but the picture showed some clams and other stuff which we didnt even received! Mind you the 24k crab was 2 pages away from the 16k crab in the menu!!…we were adamant on not letting it slide cos it felt like a scam, even the boss guy came out. Realizing that we arent gonna just let it be, the boss guy said he will refund us the “faulty” extra charge but with a rude tone! As if we even understand japanese. Even after we got the refund we still felt scammed cos the prices are higher than the average market price but the quality is crap and also we got scolded for not giving into their scam! Definitely destroyed Otaru’s image and left us a bad impression on japanese people! Conclusion, its a risk to eat here, just save urself the trouble and go eat somewhere else so Otaru doesnt give u a bad impression
