We came to Sankaku Market early in the morning to beat the crowds. We arrived around 9:30–10:00 AM, and there weren’t many people yet. The market itself is fairly small, and most of the vendors sell similar items, including red king crab, hairy crab, seafood, and donburi bowls. We decided to buy two crabs: one hairy crab and one king crab. I picked them myself from the tanks. Be prepared for sticker shock—the crabs are definitely pricey. The medium king crabs were around ¥10,000 per kilogram, while the larger ones were about ¥14,000 per kilogram. I forgot the price of the hairy crab. The crabs were very fresh and tasted great. However, considering the cost, I honestly think the king crab legs at Costco are a better value. We usually buy them for around $39.99 per pound. One thing to note: bring cash or have PayPay ready. Many of the stalls do not accept credit cards. We originally planned to stay for a donburi bowl, but after finishing our crabs, the restaurant lines had become very long, so we decided to leave. If you’re planning to eat here, I highly recommend coming early. Overall, Sankaku Market is worth visiting for fresh seafood and the experience, but expect tourist-area pricing.
View on GoogleMy favourite place for fresh seafood that isn't a tourist trap in Hokkaido. In fact, I returned to this market twice during my recent trip. The restaurant staff was friendly and the king crab was so sweet and fresh. The quality of the seafood made the wait worthwhile. I can't say the same for the sliced Yubari melon, as the price for a slice fluctuated during my 2 visits and so did the quality. I would say there are places where you can taste nicer and cheaper Yubari melon in Hokkaido. 😋
View on GoogleI visited this interesting indoor seafood market with my wife and my parents in Apr 2013. The vibrant atmosphere and incredible variety of incredibly fresh catches were completely unforgettable. We absolutely loved picking our own king crab and enjoying it freshly cooked right on the spot!
View on GoogleIf you love seafoods, you’ll love this place. Huge crab and a great selection of other seafoods like tuna, salmon, scallops. We tried some chirashi and grilled fish and it was so good. A bit pricey specially if you want yo try the crab.
View on GoogleHad a great experience at Sankaku Market. The seafood is super fresh and there are many shops to choose from. It’s a nice place to try different kinds of Hokkaido seafood all in one spot. The only thing is you need to queue for almost every store and wait for your seat, especially during busy hours. But once you get in, the food makes it worth it.
