小樽運河クルーズOtaru Canal Cruise
Day & dusk cruises on a restored canal lined with former warehouses, now museums & shops.
A relaxed cruise of about 40 minutes around Otaru Canal and Otaru Port, which show a different face in every season. Departures and arrivals are at Chuo Bridge, which is convenient for sightseeing in Otaru. It is also ideal for a day trip from Sapporo.

My visit to Otaru Canal in July was such a beautiful and memorable experience. The quaint little canal, lined with historic buildings and a charming boardwalk, creates a dreamy atmosphere that feels almost like stepping into a postcard. The highlight of the visit was undoubtedly the majestic sunset. As the evening light reflected across the calm waters, the entire canal took on a warm, magical glow. Walking along the boardwalk while taking in the views of Otaru Town made for a wonderfully peaceful experience. I also noticed the small sightseeing boats carrying tourists along the canal from one end to the other. They looked like such an enjoyable way to experience Otaru from a different perspective and would definitely be something I'd consider trying on a future visit. Overall, Otaru Canal is the kind of place where you don't need a packed itinerary. Simply strolling along the waterfront, watching the boats go by and enjoying the sunset is enough to make the visit special. A truly charming spot and one of my favourite memories from Hokkaido.
View on GoogleTook the last 8pm slot for the cruise. Bought 40 mins before the cruise. Interesting facts about the canal. They have audio for english so its tourist friendly. May seem touristy but i definitely would recommend to experience it.
View on GoogleA lovely experience to have in Otaru, the canal cruise. I learned a lot from the history of how Otaru coastal industry came about. The crysie tool extra care in our safety. A must try adventure in Oraru
View on GoogleA little disappointed. Not much to see. The boat was very crowded with no shade on a sunny day. We were not offered earphones for the audio guide.
View on GoogleVery peaceful town. Strolling along the canal to enjoy the scenery. A little hard to find the shop initially. But it is just next to the main bridge. Boat ride is enjoyable with the captain explaining and tried to make it fun. If dont know Japanese, there is audio guide. The seat is heated chair during winter. Can be quite windy at the start because it is detour to the sea before cruising in the canal. Ticket is ¥1,800 per pax as of 2025 pricing. Arrive 15 mins before departure time to prepare. Need to wear life vest for safety.
