If you’re looking for an authentic seafood experience in Hokkaido, Minshuku Aotsuka Shokudou (民宿 青塚食堂) is a place you simply can’t miss. The restaurant is traditional, simple, and full of authentic Japanese charm. There’s nothing flashy here—the focus is entirely on the food, and it truly speaks for itself. Everything we ordered was absolutely delicious. From the incredibly fresh sashimi and creamy sea urchin to the perfectly grilled fish and scallops, every dish showcased the outstanding quality of the ingredients. You can immediately tell that freshness and careful preparation are their top priorities. The atmosphere is warm and genuine, making you feel like you’re enjoying a home-cooked meal by the sea rather than dining in a tourist restaurant. The staff were friendly and welcoming, and despite the restaurant being busy, the service was smooth and well organized. If you appreciate high-quality seafood and want to experience authentic Japanese cuisine at its best, Minshuku Aotsuka Shokudou is a must-visit. Outstanding food, exceptional ingredients, and a truly memorable dining experience. I would gladly return every time I’m in Hokkaido. Highly recommended!
View on GoogleIncredibly delicious seafood. Maybe some of the freshest and tastiest in the world. Service is always top notch and quick. The place is very popular because of how good it is so be prepared for a bit of a wait if you go during peak meal times. The meals vary in price depending on how expensive your taste it. There are many affordable and delicious options, or if you want to splurg on something special, you can a buy the creamiest and sweetest uni at market price. The scallops and kinki fish are my favorite, outside of the uni. The scallop udon is a very affordable delicious meal.
View on GoogleThis place is one of the best local seafood restaurants in Otaru. Seafood was amazing and reasonably priced. The grilled fish was incredibly delicious and flavorful. The fish taste made it completely worth the effort. The ingredients very fresh and traditional. Service was excellent. A wonderful place for an authentic local meal. The staff were friendly and the initial woman had decent english. They also have an english menu. Parking is conveniently located just across from the restaurant and its easy to access. The atmosphere is casual yet lively, which makes the experience even more enjoyable. Its awonderful place to enjoy delicious seafood. Its highly recommended.
View on GoogleThis is a well-known seafood restaurant that many people recommend, and it was one of the places we were most excited to visit. It was actually the first restaurant we went to after arriving from the airport. We drove there immediately because we had been looking forward to enjoying fresh seafood, especially uni, during this trip. We ordered the uni set, grilled squid, and grilled shellfish. The food looked fresh, and we were excited for the meal. However, about two hours after eating, I developed severe stomach pain, followed by persistent vomiting and diarrhea. The symptoms were serious and made the rest of the day extremely difficult. While I cannot say with absolute certainty what caused it, the illness began shortly after this meal. It was a very unpleasant experience and unfortunately overshadowed the start of our trip. What makes it especially disappointing is that we planned this trip specifically to enjoy uni and seafood, but after this experience, I no longer feel comfortable eating uni again. I understand that others may have had positive experiences here, but I wanted to share what happened to me so that future visitors can make their own informed decision.
View on GoogleEverything was so fresh and delicious! I recommend the Uni and grilled Hokke. Our family usually doesn’t like uni, but the uni here was amazing—we devoured it. It's a bit pricey, but the quality makes it worth it. The staff don't speak much English, but they are friendly and kind, especially the two older grannies. They have an English menu, so ordering is easy. The restaurant is quite large, but I'd recommend making a reservation since it’s very popular with both locals and tourists.
