Food: If you’re craving for Chinese Japanese food in Otaru, come here. Service: Excellent. Have a chat with the other regular customers too. Ambience: Lovely old school Japanese izakaya.

To 'Kashu', a neighborhood Chinese restaurant in Otaru!!! Inside it's total Showa retro vibes, super good!!! Its Tabelog score is a modest 3.25, but it's a renowned spot where you can feel the local love!!! This time I had Otaru's soul food, 'ankake yakisoba (950 yen)'!!! Loaded with toppings just like in the photo, the piping-hot sauce clings to the fragrantly fried noodles, seriously delicious, sooo goood!!! The rich soy-sauce-based sauce is in perfect harmony with the noodles, I was so moved!!! No wonder the locals love this flavor!!! Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!

~ Everyday Chinese food of Otaru folks ~ It was a shop full of warm, thoughtful kindness. A loving mother serves the food The moment you order, the iron wok roars The chef, as I learned from a notice in the shop, is the heir to the flavor of 'Baigetsu', one of the roots of ankake yakisoba, which was born in Otaru. And yet, from the set meals all priced at 1000 yen, I had an irresistible craving and chose the mapo tofu set meal. On the tray: a plate of vegetables, macaroni, mayo spaghetti, fried fish, and tempura. A half ramen with wakame. An extra-large serving of bouncy mapo tofu. Even in the small bowl, the rice was piled high; I flinched for a second, but dug in furiously and finished it all! Be careful?! The self-serve water needs care when pouring. The cold water pitcher just wouldn't pour, so I twisted the lid 45 degrees. Still the same, so I tilted it further, and more cold water than one glass could hold spread all over the floor and my feet, splaaash When I called to the kitchen, 'Sorry, do you have something to wipe this with?', a regular, an older lady, smiled coolly and said, 'It's fine, it's fine. I can't count how many times I've done that myself,' and spread out the shop's old newspapers to soak it up The mother of the shop kindly said too, 'It's fine, I'll take care of it later.' To a group of university students who said they came from Ebetsu for their aikido club, unlike my after-meal coffee, she even treated them to melon soda. This place is a whole other world. I'll be back, for sure!!

I love the liver and chives here❤︎ The 1000-yen mapo tofu set meal is Japanese-style mapo tofu. I had them make it spicy and it felt even richer. There's never enough rice, so I always eat while rationing it^ ^ The staff are warm, and the conversations I overhear touch my heart. The ramen soup is delicious too!

I had ankake yakisoba at Kashu, which tastes like Baigetsu, the famous ankake restaurant that's now gone. Everything is hearty, delicious Chinese food popular with locals. The thick, bold sauce clings well to the noodles, tasty. It's loaded with ingredients, and apparently the seafood flavor is the key point. Next time I wanna try lots of other stuff
