Straightforward restaurant with a retro feel offering Chinese & Japanese comfort foods.

Founded in Showa 39, we are a Chinese diner long beloved on Otaru's Miyakodori Shopping Street. We offer a wide range of dishes, from ankake yakisoba and miso ramen to set meals and rice dishes. With unchanging flavors and a warm atmosphere, we have been frequented by locals for many years. Visitors on sightseeing trips, please come and taste a “neighborhood Chinese restaurant” rooted in everyday Otaru life.

Chinese Restaurant Keien is a traditional, no-frills Chinese restaurant serving classic Japanese-style Chinese dishes (chūka ryōri). The interior is simple and functional, with counter seating and closely arranged tables, and the place is clearly popular with locals, especially at lunchtime. The menu is extensive and clearly priced, covering a wide range of ramen (soy sauce, salt, and miso bases), yakisoba, rice dishes, and set meals. Prices are reasonable for Otaru, with most main dishes falling between 850 and 1,100 yen. In addition to noodles, there are fried rice, curry rice, donburi, gyoza (available in full or half portions), and vegetable-based dishes. Alcohol is also available, including draft beer, local Otaru beer, sake, and chūhai. The food is prepared in an open kitchen behind the counter. Portions are generous and filling, and the style is clearly oriented toward everyday comfort food rather than refined presentation. The ankake yakisoba stood out as a typical example of the kitchen’s approach: thick sauce, plenty of vegetables, seafood and meat, and a distinctly old-school flavor profile. Condiments such as chili oil, vinegar, pepper, and soy sauce are available at the table, allowing diners to adjust seasoning to taste. Service is efficient and direct, and the atmosphere is busy but orderly, with a steady turnover of customers.

Ankake ekisoba 烩炒面 was out of this world. The noodle was well fried with wok hei, and the sauce was sticky and flavourful and not salty at all. Generous ingredients with pork slices, capsicum, prawns, bamboo shoot, carrot, and mushrooms. 870 yen per serving was value for money. WOW. 5 stars We were seated immediately on Monday 6pm. Serving within 10 minutes upon ordering. The shop provided english and chinese menu
