🐚【北の岬さくらばな】Rice with a hole recreates Nabetsuru Rock in “なべつるカレー,” a specialty of Cape Inaho on Okushiri Island 🌊 A souvenir & dining spot in the Inaho district at Okushiri Island’s northernmost tip, just before Sai no Kawara. Operating as a fishermen’s dining room, coastal mothers offer handmade dishes, while scallops, abalone, whelks, and sea squirts swim in its live tank—a seafood hub on this remote island. 🍛My unhesitating recommendation is the Okushiri specialty “なべつるカレー.” Its playful presentation uses rice to imitate the doughnut-shaped silhouette of “鍋つる岩,” the island’s symbol. It was a visually entertaining dish that made me blurt out “Wow!” as it arrived. The curry sauce contains 1 whole Ezo abalone + generous chunks of shrimp, scallops, squid, octopus, and shiitake, with a gentle seaside aroma rising from the mild sauce—a luxurious offering. Comes with salad and miso soup. Other options include wild sea urchin “うに丼定食,” available only from mid-7月〜the end of 8月, a two-topping sea urchin and abalone bowl, a hokke fish-paste soup set, and Okushiri sakura ramen, providing plenty of ways to enjoy the island’s seafood. There is also a souvenir section selling homemade shiokara and seafood. 🍃Open daily from late 4月 to the end of 9月, with irregular days off otherwise, so checking ahead is recommended for off-season visits. Prices are aimed at tourists, so just bear in mind that the two-topping bowls cost in the 3,000円 range. A dining staple at Cape Inaho, recommended for “people wanting to explore Okushiri seafood in one dish” and “people who like visually appealing local curries.” 🌟Overall rating:★4.0 / 5.0

The dining room on the ferry terminal’s 2nd floor was busy, so I had lunch here. There was only 1 customer already there, so it was quiet. Okushiri Island may be known for sea urchin, but I do not like it, so I had the squid sashimi set. They also have reasonably priced curry and other dishes. They were selling various souvenirs too.

2026·R8.5.25 I wanted this to be my first visit, but it was not open. According to the restaurant’s website, it should be open from GW until the end of 10月… Did I happen to hit one of its irregular days off? Or does it open later at this time of year? So no “なべつるカレー” either. 4 stars for the atmosphere alone.

I ate here after being swayed by everyone’s posts, but aren’t these tourist prices? (Are your price perceptions out of whack because you all come from Kanto or Kansai?) The salmon roe was small and looked like something you could get at conveyor-belt sushi (I was disappointed to come all the way to Okushiri Island and get this roe). The abalone was delicious, but over 3000円 for this amount is surely expensive. The curry just had scallops and shrimp added, with no stock flavor coming through. The abalone was covered in curry, so I was nervous that curry would splatter when I detached it. (Around 2500円) The seafood fried rice was, as the photo suggests, pretty much what you would expect. It had 2〜3 shrimp about the size of a pinky fingernail. 1200円. Perhaps because the large family at the next table ordered lots of things, including sea urchin bowls, the proprietress (?) later brought them complimentary extras. I waited to see if she would bring some to our table too, but nothing came. In the end, I felt this was a restaurant that only gives extras to people who spend a lot of money, and decided not to go again. ※There is no air conditioning, so flies gathering on the food were also unhygienic.
