I had tenzaru udon. The tempura batter was super crispy With 3 shrimp, eggplant, shishito, onion, and pumpkin It was quite a generous amount. You can make a mini tempura bowl with a small serving of rice. Thank you for the meal.

A restaurant along 国道36号線, roughly halfway between 登別 and 幌別, with an eye-catching sanuki udon sign. The noren curtain says 京庵… which one is the restaurant name? Wondering about that, I walked through the noren. The interior is fairly spacious, divided into tables, raised floor seating, and a counter. A cheerful woman came to take my order, but I couldn't settle on a dish. After some indecision, I impulsively ordered tentoji don, something I almost never eat. The tentoji don was strongly seasoned, and it was fun enjoying the contrast between the crisply fried tempura and the moist egg coating. The udon in the set had soft, chewy noodles and was tasty as a soup dish. Though it didn't really feel like sanuki udon. The rice in the bowl was also quite generous, so I ended up full. Thank you for the meal.

Tempura bowl set menu, 890円 This price for a tempura bowl with udon or soba is reasonable. The taste wasn't bad either. But the employees' attitude was awful! They didn't come to take my order after I sat down. When I called out, they said 『Please wait a moment』, then went and took the order of customers who arrived later first! Even when they came to take my order, there wasn't a word of 『Sorry to keep you waiting』. When I complained, they got defensive and said 『It would be wrong if I were doing it deliberately』 (haha) You're being paid to do your job, so provide proper customer service!

Since it's a roadside place, I wasn't sure what to expect, but it was perfectly tasty. What's unusual is that ordering a tempura bowl or another rice bowl comes with kake udon or kake soba. Plus chilled tofu and pickles, so all the rice bowls are sets. The prices are ordinary too. A tempura bowl is 880 円. The udon is ordinary. The broth isn't salty or too sweet, just right. It's debatable whether this counts as sanuki udon; it's ordinary udon. The tempura bowl sauce is a little sweet.
