The area has a rather alarming name, but you can try feeding the bears in a place designed with safety in mind. I bought a pack of 10 cookie-like treats for 200 yen, but unfortunately the 2 bears nearby did not even look at the food, perhaps because they were full…… With no other option, I went to the outdoor area and gave it to bears that were beckoning. I think their skill at catching the food is amazing.
View on GoogleThey sell bear food portioned into small packets here, so you can feed them in a safe environment and experience the bears’ power and danger up close.
View on GoogleThe bears here are lazy and fall into 2 groups. One group stays lying motionless in the open area, while a few others pace back and forth near the human cage. But even when food is tossed right in front of them, they do not eat it, and it often gets picked up by crows flying in. Such a waste.
View on GoogleDrawn in by the striking name “ヒトのオリ”, I slipped right inside as though pulled in. It is a room with transparent glass on 3 sides, with bears surrounding you outside the glass. There is a food vending machine, and after buying some, you can hand it to the bears using a special feeding device. The bears here seem relatively calm, but seeing them up close is still scary.
