The Nishiokoppe Village Local Museum is a charming and educational destination for history enthusiasts and curious visitors alike. The moment you step into the museum, you'll notice its warm and welcoming atmosphere. To begin your visit, simply write your name on the reception desk. Admission is completely free, making it an accessible attraction for everyone. The museum offers a well-curated collection of exhibits that tell the story of the village’s history and culture. Among the highlights are ancient stone tools that provide a glimpse into early human ingenuity. You can also explore a fascinating array of old daily necessities, offering a nostalgic view of how life was lived in earlier times. The industrial artifacts on display illustrate the development of local industries and the tools that were integral to the village's economic activities. One of the more unique features of the museum is its tribute to former athletes from the village. This section introduces visitors to individuals who have brought pride to Nishiokoppe through their athletic achievements, emphasizing the community's rich cultural heritage.

You write your name in the reception register before entering. Admission is free. Displays include stone tools, old household items, objects used in industry, and introductions to athletes from the area. Unfortunately, there are few captions and the displays seem not to have been updated.

It feels like a collection room inside a multipurpose building. I called beforehand but no one answered, so I went thinking it might be closed. The building's lights were off, but when I pushed the entrance door, I could get in and was told to look around freely. It might be good for a look if you're passing by.

Despite being a village of around 1,000 people, it has an impressive facility that thoroughly conveys its history. Naturally, there is plenty of material about the settlement period, but I also learned here for the first time that Nishiokoppe Village once had a limestone mining operation running from the early Showa era until Heisei 12, producing 8万9千 tonnes at its peak and employing more than 150 people. I also learned that during the Showa 30s, although its population exceeded 4,000, this small village produced 2 professional athletes in baseball and sumo at the same time.
