It's a gravel parking lot. When I visited on an Obon afternoon, I only saw crows and Ezo deer, but when I went in the morning, there was a white-tailed eagle at an incredibly close distance. Close enough to photograph well with a cellphone. Also, the mosquitoes are intense, so protection is essential.
View on GoogleYou can reach it by crossing a narrow bridge wide enough for one car. The parking lot is gravel. The scenery is incredibly beautiful; perhaps you can see the islands when the weather is good? Seagulls perch on the bridge railing and fly off scattering poop, so be careful.
View on GoogleThere was a parking lot beyond the mouth of Lake Furen. I went out to the shoreline and looked over Nemuro Bay, with its shallows extending far out. It was very shallow, and the tidal flats seemed to serve as a resting place for seagulls.
View on GoogleOn August 15, 2021, I visited 「春国岱」, one of Kushiro's Ten Scenic Views! Apparently 春国岱 is pronounced “Shunkunitai.” I think you really need to walk this 1220-meter boardwalk to experience Shunkunitai... but the weather wasn't great and it was cold... so I just took photos in the parking lot and called it a day. Apparently it's a habitat for Blakiston's fish owls. I'd love to meet one. I decided that next time I'd come prepared to walk the boardwalk properly + choose a sunny day, haha.
View on GoogleYou can drive here across the bridge. Minibuses are okay, too. When I visited in mid-February, there was a Hokkaido red fox. When I visited in early October, there were Ezo deer before reaching here. Anyone wanting to go farther walks along the trail (boardwalk). It's pronounced Shunkunitai.
