A soft serve and gelato shop very close to Nanporo Onsen♨️. Gelato comes in single, double, and triple servings, with a choice of cup or cone. There are various gelato flavors, some of which felt a little scary to try, but I ordered 2 ordinary ones, a milk-based flavor and a strawberry-based flavor. It was a hot day, so it tasted especially delicious. I felt like I could have another serving.
View on GoogleWhen I went to the bathhouse next door, an elderly man came out saying, “No good, no good, it's packed,” so I didn't go in. Then I spotted an ice cream shop! So I stopped by Carol. The bathhouse really did have a full parking lot and was extremely crowded. There are negative reviews, but that's not how it is. It's delicious!! The first one was espresso & yogurt. The second was mille-feuille & cocoa. The yogurt wasn't very tart, and was the kind of yogurt I personally like. Double 450円, triple 650円.
View on GoogleI stopped by after soaking in the onsen, and the ice cream was really delicious. It had a light flavor that made me want to eat it again and again. I'd like to stop by again.
View on GoogleThe flavor wasn't flashy, but it had a simple deliciousness. The sugary sweetness wasn't strong, so it tasted lighter than I imagined, but I could finish it without getting tired of it. The male staff member was conscientious too. I ordered a single cup, and he repeatedly added small amounts and leveled it off to make sure the cup was properly filled, then served it full. He also checked the firmness of other customers' ice cream and scooped it again, so I thought he was very considerate.
View on GoogleIce Carol in Nanporo. Whenever I come across a shop with “Carol” in its name, I get a little nervous, wondering whether the owner might be a fan of that rock 'n' roll guy. How should I react if the owner has a pompadour? What should I say back if he speaks in sentences ending with nouns? I always enter with those worries on my mind. “Have you decided? Ice cream.” “Which one? Size.” “Check it. Your change.” “Close it properly. The door.” Hello, everyone in Nanporo. I'm Tenpuku, the talking fish, the complete opposite of that guy, who has thoroughly “gone downhill.” Anyway, this time I had espresso and rum raisin gelato. To be honest, I prefer ice cream with a moderate amount of air in it, but gelato is refreshing and nice on hot days too. The flavor was also on the refreshing side, a gelato that doesn't make you thirsty. There are lots of unusual flavors, such as “cabbage” and “kirara397,” so wondering what to eat next time is part of the fun. I've eaten broccoli soft serve in Chippubetsu, green pepper soft serve in Niikappu, and oyster soft serve in Akkeshi. A slightly unusual flavor won't surprise me. All right. Next time, I really will try a double of “natto” and “kirara397.” After warming up at Nanporo Onsen, I recommend cold, sweet natto rice ice cream. ←Though I haven't eaten it yet.
