View on GoogleLittle glimpses of Hokkaido’s gold rush story 😆 It was fun, like, wow, there are this many kinds of placer gold〜🥲
View on GoogleAdmission costs 120円 for high school students and older, and 60円 for elementary and junior high school students. A limestone cave welcomes you first. The gold-panning exhibit unique to this area is also distinctive, with gold nuggets and placer gold. Explanations of nature, including fossils and insect specimens, are followed by industrial exhibits. Apparently this is also a forestry town, and the recreated horse-drawn sled carrying timber is impressive. It seems unusual to be allowed onto the tatami in a recreated house. There are old toys in the drawers, which apparently you can play with freely. It is a shame that the exhibits do not seem to have been updated much.
View on GoogleI personally enjoy reading about Hokkaido’s placer gold and gold mines, and I finally fulfilled my long-held wish to visit the museum. Inside, although the placer gold mine is a replica, I was able to get a glimpse of life around Nakatombetsu Town, which was bustling with gold prospectors at the time.
View on GoogleVisited during a motorcycle tour. I ended up arriving during the lunch break, so I killed some time and came back. Please keep that in mind. Admission was 120円. The exhibits have a strong Showa-era feel and are nostalgic. The fire engine might be the main attraction. I signed the visitor register, and there seem to be very few visitors, so please try visiting at least once.
