Service and food awesome
View on GoogleI had lunch at Restaurant Kawatei and ordered the beef stew lunch. The main beef stew featured slowly simmered beef that was very tender and fell apart gently in the mouth. The rich demi-glace sauce had depth without being too heavy, and I enjoyed it to the last bite. The plate was well balanced, including the accompaniments, and the generous portion made for a satisfying lunch. The interior has the relaxed atmosphere of an old-fashioned Western-style restaurant, so you can enjoy a leisurely meal. If I'm having Western food in Nakashibetsu, this is a place I'd like to visit again.
View on GoogleWe hadn't made a reservation, but they somehow managed to fit us in. I often come to Nakashibetsu for work, but I'd never really had the opportunity to visit Kawatei, so this was my first visit. It's so famous that Kawatei is practically synonymous with Nakashibetsu, so I thought it might be impossible without a reservation. But a coworker insisted on going, so we tried on the off chance. They said they were fully booked today but could accommodate us for about 1 hour, so we managed to get in. Much appreciated. The menu, featuring Japanese, Western, and Chinese dishes, lived up to its reputation. Still, the atmosphere of a good old-fashioned restaurant inevitably made me choose Western food. So, steak and meat spaghetti. We each had a steak but shared the meat spaghetti. Everything was served on iron plates. Piping hot and delicious. Thanks for the meal.
View on GoogleI visited for the first time after hearing that this place, loved for 50 years, is famous in Nakashibetsu. They offer Japanese, Western, and Chinese dishes, and apparently they're all delicious. I ordered beef curry, and sure enough, it was full of chunky beef and very tasty. The portion was generous too, and it was good value.
View on GoogleWhen I visited after a long time, rice refills had been discontinued. I was in the mood for fried rice, so it didn't affect me, but losing (free rice refills) is a big deal. Anyway, the large fried rice (an extra 100円, if I remember correctly) was 980円. The grains were separate and the seasoning a little light. Nice. There were plenty of ingredients, including 4.5 plump shrimp. The karaage from the izakaya menu was 400円, if I remember correctly. Fantastic!
