Throughout the Furano and Biei area there are many flower gardens, and each has its own character and charm. So what makes this one different? Mainly the wide-open views and the sense of intimacy. This is not one of the larger gardens, and precisely because of that it is also much less crowded. It makes a wonderful stop along the way and offers a pleasant combination of flower fields and sweeping scenery. Most of the flowers here are lavender. Unfortunately, we visited toward the end of the blooming season, but there were still quite a few beds of other seasonal flowers in bloom, which were lovely to see. The special feature here is the elevation. You arrive at a large parking area below the hill, right beside the main road. Admission includes a ride on a single-seat chairlift that takes you up the steep hillside. It is possible to walk up, but in our opinion there is little reason to do so—it is quite a climb. From the top, you look down over the lavender and flower beds. You can also walk among the lavender and take photographs, which many visitors do. But the flowers themselves are not really the main reason to come here. There are other gardens in the region with larger and more impressive displays. The real attraction is the distant view. The fertile Furano valley stretches out below, all the way toward the mountains in the distance. The landscape looks like a patchwork quilt of agricultural fields in different shapes and colors. It gives a beautiful sense of the scale and structure of the valley and adds something very different to the usual flower-garden experience. It is best to visit when the light is good. We were there under overcast skies, so the flowers looked less vivid, but fortunately the distant scenery was still clear. On a bright day, we can easily imagine that the view would be spectacular.

Visiting Hokuseiyama Observation Deck in Nakafurano during our summer road trip across Hokkaido was an absolute highlight and easily one of the most delightful, rewarding scenic spots of our entire journey through the Furano valley. What makes this location so uniquely memorable is the charming single-seat chairlift ride that glides you gently up the steep hillside, floating directly over vibrant, meticulously planted ribbons of purple lavender, bright sunflowers, and colorful marigolds in full summer bloom. Floating above the aromatic flower fields with the cool mountain breeze in your face was an exhilarating, peaceful experience in itself. Upon reaching the observation deck at the top, you are rewarded with a grand, unobstructed panoramic vista stretching across the countryside, sprawling farm pastures, and the dramatic, towering peaks of the Tokachi mountain range framing the horizon. Parking at the base was completely free and convenient, ticket prices for the lift were very reasonable, and the overall atmosphere felt wonderfully relaxed and uncrowded compared to some of the larger commercial farms nearby. It gave us the perfect opportunity to take our time, capture postcard-worthy photos from elevated viewpoints, and truly absorb Hokkaido's raw natural beauty. Cap off the visit with a refreshing lavender soft-serve ice cream at the bottom, and you have an incredible pit stop that should not be missed on any driving itinerary through central Hokkaido.

Great experience to take the kids on the chair lift up the hill. It was a great view from the top with some good photo opportunities. My son dropped his shoe on the way up, but the staff were great at getting it back to us. Great tourist experience and quieter than the busy place along the road.

Hokuseiyama Observation Deck offers breathtaking views that beautifully capture the charm of Nakafurano. The highlight of this destination is undoubtedly the stunning lavender fields that paint the landscape in vibrant shades of purple during the summer months. These aromatic fields are not only a feast for the eyes but also a sensory delight, perfect for photos and peaceful walks. The view from the observation deck is equally captivating, providing a panoramic glimpse of the quaint town of Nakafurano and the surrounding countryside. The scenery transitions beautifully with the seasons, making it a worthwhile visit any time of the year. For a touch of adventure, visitors can hop on the ski chair lift, which adds a unique experience to the trip. Whether you're ascending during summer to enjoy the floral beauty or gliding down in winter with snow-draped landscapes, the lift offers a relaxing and scenic ride.
