Visiting Farm Tomita during our summer road trip across Hokkaido was an absolute crowning jewel of our journey and the ultimate embodiment of Furano's iconic floral beauty. As the birthplace of lavender tourism in Japan, this legendary farm completely blew us away from the second we arrived; entry and parking are remarkably free, and despite its worldwide fame and bustling popularity, the massive property is so thoughtfully laid out that exploring feels effortless and deeply enjoyable. Walking through the world-famous Irodori Field (Rainbow Field)—where vibrant, perfectly manicured stripes of purple lavender, red poppies, white baby's breath, and golden marigolds sweep down gentle slopes against the majestic, misty backdrop of the Tokachi mountain range—felt like stepping directly into an oil painting. The entire farm is filled with the soothing, intoxicating fragrance of blooming lavender, and climbing up to the Traditional Lavender Field gives you a breathtaking vantage point over the entire valley. Beyond the spectacular outdoor gardens, the charming wooden houses on site add so much depth to the visit; stepping inside the Dried Flower House felt like entering a rustic wonderland, while watching the lavender essential oil extraction process at the Distillery Workshop was endlessly fascinating. Naturally, no trip to Farm Tomita is complete without trying their famous concessions—the signature lavender soft-serve ice cream was delightfully floral, smooth, and refreshing under the bright summer sun, while the sweet, juicy local Yubari melon slices were an absolute dream. Everything about the facility is impeccably clean, remarkably well-maintained, and filled with incredible souvenirs from artisanal lavender soaps and perfumes to freshly harvested dried bouquets. It is a world-class natural attraction that effortlessly blends rich history, spectacular horticulture, and warm Hokkaido hospitality into an unforgettable sensory experience. If you are planning a summer road trip through central Hokkaido, Farm Tomita is an absolute non-negotiable, bucket-list destination that will leave you with memories and photos you will cherish for a lifetime.
View on GoogleVisited Farm Tomita in early July. The lavender fields were in full bloom. It was peak lavendar season and you can smell the scent of lavendar flowers as you walk past them. The lavendar and melon soft cream was nice and a must-try. Also the melon was soft, juicy sweet and very refreshing.
View on GoogleVisiting Farm Tomita in Furano, Hokkaido, in July was one of those experiences that felt almost too beautiful to be real. 💜 The moment I arrived, I was surrounded by endless lavender fields stretching across Furano’s lush landscape, with vibrant colours, fresh mountain air, and the most peaceful countryside views. The lavender was in full bloom, creating a beautiful purple carpet against the rolling green hills — truly one of the most scenic summer experiences in Hokkaido. But Farm Tomita is not just about lavender. Furano is also famous for its incredibly delicious melons, and I couldn’t resist trying some of the many melon-inspired treats available around the farm. From fresh, juicy melon to beautifully crafted desserts and appetisers, there were so many ways to enjoy the region’s seasonal produce. The highlight for me was the Manmaru Melon Dolce — beautifully presented and bursting with the sweetness and freshness of Furano melon. The lavender cheesecake was another standout, combining a delicate floral flavour with a creamy, indulgent texture. Alongside these were various melon sweets, appetisers and other lavender-infused treats, making the food experience just as memorable as the scenery. Walking through the flower fields, stopping for delicious local treats, and taking in the peaceful views made Farm Tomita feel like a beautiful escape from the usual pace of travel. Furano in July is simply magical — a place where lavender fields, lush green landscapes, seasonal fruits and incredible food come together perfectly. 🌿💜🍈 Farm Tomita was definitely one of the most beautiful and memorable stops from my Hokkaido journey.
View on GoogleThis is a charming place, but it attracts a large number of tourists. Most of the time, you're just moving around people trying to take their perfect photo. We visited in early July when most of the flowers were in bloom. Although I enjoy flowers, this place was not a major highlight for my family and me. It feels to me that it's overhyped on social. Notes: The lavender soft serve is really good. Parking right at the farm is free. When you drive towards the farm, you will see parking but it's paid. We decided to chance it and found lots of spots at the farm.
View on GoogleWhat a beautiful flower farm with endless rows of lavender fields, begonia, dahlias etc… such wonderfully awesome summer colours! There are many spots to rest & eat soft serve ice cream whilst enjoying the views. If you see a long queue at one counter, just walk further away or up the hills at the back of the main store and you will see another store that sells the same souvenirs & food. In the mornings, there are usually huge amount of tour buses. Come in the afternoon though it’s much hotter but tour buses crowds would have left by then… but still crowded haha!
