Tried the katsudon, which is said to be their specialty. As you can see in the photo, the katsu simmered with egg and broth is served separately. It felt fairly light, but personally I prefer the style where you shovel in rice soaked with the sauce~.
View on GoogleA soba shop known for its delicious katsudon. The soba is sarashina. It also comes with a small onigiri. The katsu for the katsudon comes on a separate plate. The flavor is on the strong side but very tasty, and I gather the oil is clean. The gobo-ten, egg-drop soba, and duck soba are also good. And the cold water is really delicious. I've visited several times, and it's a soba shop I never get tired of.
View on GoogleOn my nightly health walks I passed in front of this shop many times and was startled by the cat in the bay window on the residential side. I'd been curious but never had the chance to visit, and when I finally stepped through the noren, it had a cleaner and smarter atmosphere than any Kogane (小がね) I'd been to before. The menu is simple too, with nothing extra. However, when I ordered the niku-don without knowing what it was, it turned out to be a pretty ordinary pork ginger bowl… The duck nanban soba my wife ordered—put nicely, it brings out the flavor of the ingredients; put badly, it's bland and unsatisfying. She was moved by how incredibly delicious the sesame-salt onigiri served as a set with the soba was. Not the soba, not the broth, but that they use good rice. That's what you're impressed by?!
View on GoogleI ordered the hiyashi tanuki. It tasted good, but the portion was really small, and I left the shop not satisfied at all. I got hungry and ended up buying a bento at a convenience store afterwards.. Honestly, 960 yen for this is expensive.
View on GoogleI was craving curry soba for lunch, so I stopped by. Since it was lunchtime, both the tables and the raised tatami area were almost full. The menu has three kinds—curry soba, curry egg-drop soba, and curry shrimp tempura soba—and I ordered the curry egg-drop soba (910円). Maybe thanks to the egg, the spiciness was mild, there was quite a lot of pork belly, and it came with a mini onigiri, which I put in the bowl at the end to finish it off risotto-style.
