One of the best coffees I've been! The location looks so hidden on the top of a hill and the atmosphere is so retro style. They also have an amazing garden outside! I was very impressed!
View on GoogleLose track of time at the pure kafe "Lamp Castle," an otherworldly space set against a cliffside view. A little-known gem essential to any telling of Muroran's history is "Lamp Castle." Its form, clinging to the sheer cliff, instantly sweeps visitors into another world. This shop was born as a Jingisukan restaurant in the era when Muroran, the city of steel, was at its liveliest. It later became a cafe, and the building, which has accumulated more than 60 years, carries a weighty dignity that only genuine history has. Time that has built up is alive in the well-worn furnishings and every decoration inside. What you'll want to enjoy here is the old-fashioned omurice, with no gimmicks. One bite and anyone will nod, "Yes, this is it," and the gentle, somehow nostalgic flavor naturally makes you smile. After the meal, have a deep, rich coffee or a melon soda with its vivid green. With your favorite cup beside you, the time spent looking out at Muroran's sea and sky beyond the window is an irreplaceable luxury.
View on GoogleVisited after work. The entrance is so poorly signposted that I wouldn't have found it without other people's reviews, and the sign beyond it has a ruined feel, so until I went inside I couldn't tell whether it was open or not. The one who welcomed me was the third-generation owner. On my first visit, they kindly showed me around the interior and the outside terrace, and I learned the history of the shop there. It seems to be loved by many fans, with many regulars, and the renovation costs were also reached through crowdfunding, and it seems to be under renovation now. After finishing work, I wanted to relax a bit, so I ordered a non-alcoholic beer, a snack set, and soup. The sea looking down from the private cape on the terrace is so beautiful it gives you goosebumps.
View on Google2025/7/12 The lighting ceremony announcing the revival of Lamp Castle That night, I went after the lighting ceremony and it was bustling I got a bit of a sense of Lamp Castle's atmosphere at twilight 2025/7/19 Visited at noon and had omurice (650 yen) for the first time in a while. There were only 2 other customers, and I was able to reel in memories of the old days The shop closes irregularly, so it's best to check the shop's Instagram to confirm whether it's open before going 2026/5/16 On the narrow uphill road leading to the shop, I asked a young woman I passed, "Are they open today?" and she answered cheerfully, "Yes, they are!" Inside, a married couple was already there. Later a man in his 50s came in. Every time I come here, I'm impressed that they built a cafe at the very edge of a sheer cliff. I was shown old photos. They used to hold tea parties outside too, huh. Apparently they also hold Jingisukan parties outside now. For the first time I went to the very tip of the cliff. Now, before the leaves grow thick on the trees, the view is good. You can see Mt. Sokuryo across the bay. At my feet… I don't want to look down. When you sit down, they bring out chocolate sweets. When the previous owner was still alive, as soon as you sat down they would hurry over with the notebook for customers. Today I had a melon soda float and sprouted brown rice omurice. The sofas are as they were, well-worn, and I hope they keep changes to a minimum. Jo Tatsuya's voice from the radio-cassette player, "Jet Stream." This is good 😊 Come to think of it, when customers came in they would turn on the ceiling lights. The previous owner was an energetic old lady who, if you talked to her, wouldn't stop talking in return.
View on GoogleAt Ponmoi Cape at the back of the shop, you can see beautiful scenery. They say you can even see dolphins if you're lucky. The shop has a unique atmosphere, and it seems many people visit for that. The owner guided us very kindly.
