It’s free. There are exhibits about writers connected with Hokkaido. You can have coffee on the 2nd floor. It’s run by volunteers, and there’s no fixed price. A kind lady who loves Muroran will chat with you. Do visit!
View on GoogleYou can view books by writers connected with Muroran, reference books, and more. Perhaps it could even be called Muroran literature. Every corner is filled with the presence of literary figures who produced little-known masterpieces across various fields. Special areas are dedicated to Akutagawa Prize winners Yoshinori Yagi and Kiyohiro Miura. Writers I was already very familiar with turned out to be from Muroran too.
View on GoogleA lovely literature museum. Many items are displayed, including publications, manuscripts, and cherished belongings of writers, tanka poets, critics, photographers, and manga artists connected with the area. It has a community literature corner, a hall, and a cafe, and also holds school publications, showing how loved it is by local residents. It’s close to Muroran Station, and free admission is another pleasure.
View on GoogleBecause Yumiko Igarashi spent her junior high school years in Muroran, materials related to Candy Candy were also displayed.
View on GoogleThere is no admission fee or anything like that; entry is free. I know nothing about literature, so all the content was new to me. The atmosphere was calm, and I could take a break over coffee in the cafe corner. I was surprised that payment was whatever you felt like giving.
