I expected they have cakes because its name is "cafe" but they only have set meals like pasta, curry or fried rice. and the taste wasn't so good. The salad was too dry... they have good atmosphere though.
View on Google2026/06 We visited for a slightly late lunch on Sunday. We were visiting the museum in Hobetsu and stopped by 木蓮 for lunch because there were no restaurants nearby. When we entered, there were 2 groups at other tables. 1 was eating, and the other 1 was waiting for their food. I ordered the chicken katsu set, and my wife ordered meat-wrapped asparagus from the seasonal menu. Then, then, it took almost an hour for the food to arrive. We waited so long that I said to my wife, if we were going to wait this long, we could have gone to another area and eaten there. Our food came out at almost the same time as that of the 2 groups who arrived after us, so they were probably cooking everything together. Now, the chicken katsu was thin but large. It was fried crisp, and the meat was tender and delicious. The accompanying salad was very good too. The problem was the meat-wrapped asparagus. When serving it, they said, 「We normally use thick asparagus, but only thin asparagus was left, so we increased the amount a little. If you're dissatisfied, you don't have to pay」. The asparagus was indeed thin. After waiting so long, we couldn't really ask them to change it to another dish. And if we said, then never mind! and left, there were no restaurants nearby, so we might have been left without anywhere to eat. We reluctantly ate it. Apparently it tasted good. The miso soup was quite salty, with little dashi flavor. Incidentally, there are no forks or knives. Though it was bad manners, I ate by biting directly into it. I think they're essential for dishes such as uncut chicken katsu and hamburger steak. The staff were 2 elderly men and 2 elderly women. The women probably did the cooking. 1 man stood behind the counter the whole time, and I imagine diners at the counter might have found it uncomfortable to eat with someone standing right in front of them. It may be family-run, but at least 1 of the men wasn't serving any function. The weather was good that day, and I think the temperature was close to 25℃, but the windows were only slightly open and the air conditioner was OFF. We ate drenched in sweat. The customer service was below amateur level. A shame, since the food is delicious. Payment is cash only. It seems you can park beside the restaurant or in the vacant lot across the road.
View on GoogleWe stopped by on our way back from the dinosaur museum that reopened after renovation in 2026.06♪ I ordered the menchi katsu set listed at the top of the menu, and the menchi katsu was large and delicious! I deducted ☆ because the food took a little while to arrive and the miso soup was salty, but the interior felt clean, and the staff greeted us with a lovely smile as we left^ - ^
View on GoogleI went because there were asparagus and hokki dishes on the menu, but… asparagus and hokki aren't available outside their season. I reluctantly had the seafood pasta. They say it's fresh pasta, but… it was practically udon, with only a token amount of frozen seafood on top. Disappointing. The set meals might be more home-style and better. But I question putting limited-season dishes on the regular menu. Some customers had even made reservations before coming, and they were disappointed too. Earlier reviews say good things, but it's better not to believe them.
View on GoogleIt was sooo good. The cream pasta with fresh noodles had flavor soaked into it, but wasn't too heavy or too strong, so it was easy to enjoy. I want to go again.
