Nice enough observation tower, the drive in is difficult on a very narrow road with some heavy vehicle traffic at the beginning. Super windy on top, no seats or shelter so we went down again quickly.

View on Google2026·R8.6.27 This was my first visit, as part of a tour of the geospots in 三笠ジオパーク (unfortunately, rainy skies limited visibility). 達布山展望台 is an observation deck at the summit of 達布山, about 144m above sea level, featuring a unique design inspired by a "beacon fire" (the white tower resembles a candlestick or candle, the 360-degree railing and central lightning rod look like flickering flames, and the green interior staircase has a different character from those white and red colors). Apparently, its origin lies in the Meiji era, when adequate topographic maps were not yet available: fires were lit at 達布山 and 円山 in 月形 to measure their relative positions and construct 樺戸道路. The observation deck is a spectacular viewpoint offering sweeping views of 石狩平野, including the rural areas of 三笠市. It is also said that prominent Meiji-era figures such as 榎本武揚 drew up development plans, including 幌内鉄道, from the summit of 達布山, making this a place where you can feel the aspirations of those who came before us.
View on GoogleYou can drive to the summit. There is also an observation tower, and after climbing the spiral staircase all the way up, the view opens in every direction. I recommend the walking trail ascending from the parking lot on the road north of the observation deck. It seems to have originally been a vehicle road, with pavement one car wide, but it is covered in fallen leaves and moss. It doesn't appear on Google Maps. There is a sign in the parking lot showing the roads and walking trails of 達布山 in detail. The path from here is a gentle climb of about 600m, with beautiful corydalis flowers and fresh greenery in spring. The observation deck at the summit is quite rusty and a little dangerous. It seems likely to be demolished eventually, or rebuilt if funding is available. But the view is good. I recommend spring or autumn when the low mountains are green and snow remains on the high mountains. The contrast is beautiful.
View on GoogleI visited on August 30, 2024. To reach this place, you drive along a narrow road. While praying no cars come from the opposite direction...(^^;. There are places to give way here and there, so it's okay. You need a spirit of giving way to each other~(^^;. The observation deck's parking lot has space for about 5~6 cars. It takes 1 minute to walk from the parking lot to the observation deck(^^;. Then, after about 3 turns up the spiral staircase, you can step onto the viewing deck. You can see all of 石狩平野, but the deck isn't very spacious, so it's best not to linger when it gets crowded. The stars look like they would be beautiful, so a nighttime visit might be nice too, but please watch out for bears.
