It's a history museum on the outskirts of 芽室町, apparently built on the grounds of the former 美生 Elementary School to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the founding of 芽室町. (Free) Stone tools and pottery excavated locally are displayed, along with old farming equipment and household items used in the past. I stopped by while visiting 新嵐山, but it's quite a distance from central 芽室, so the location isn't great. Even among local residents, I wonder if few people come all this way to visit? Is it on a route for educational bus trips or something? It felt like a bit of a waste.

I visited for the first time. It was lovely〜 Good enough that I'd happily pay admission. You can try all kinds of activities. Across the way is a former elementary school 🏫, where apparently children 🧒 used to bring their own bedding and take part in various activities, but it closed because of COVID and has stayed that way. The history museum is worth seeing ^ ^

芽室町, the birthplace of “大乃国,” the last yokozuna of the Showa era. A wealth of everyday items, farming tools, and other equipment from the time is displayed, allowing you to learn about the history of the development of 十勝.

The care of the garden trees, facilities, guidance, and exhibits is so good that, as a Japanese person, it almost feels uncomfortable for it to be free. There are hands-on activities, so I recommend it for children's education too. For adults who know a little about the subject, there are also photographs of the Ainu from before their portrayal was embellished (though I can't say for certain). Also, although you can't enter it, the gym next door was itself worthy of being an exhibit.

This facility is free to use. You can try drawing water from a well, and apparently you can also try sawing if you sign up. It's small, but various tools are displayed, so I recommend stopping by if you're interested in life in the past.
