Visiting the Motojinya General Exchange Promotion Facility offers a unique opportunity to dive into the cultural and historical richness of Mashike Town. Established in 1996, this facility serves as a hub for both locals and visitors, encouraging lifelong learning and cultural exchange. One of its key attractions is the local history information room, where you can explore the town's history, including the construction of Motojinya by the Akita Domain at the end of the Edo period. This structure once functioned as a northern security base, offering insight into Mashike’s strategic importance in Japan’s past. Additionally, the facility features a library, meeting spaces, and a multipurpose gallery, making it a vibrant community center that showcases the town’s heritage and fosters cultural sharing. Whether you're a history enthusiast or simply looking to engage with the local culture, the Motojinya is an enriching destination for anyone visiting Mashike.

View on GoogleI visited during Obon. I received a discount coupon when using another facility, so I decided to go. The spacious exhibition area was packed with Mashike's history.
View on GoogleThe site where the Akita Domain's Motojinya stood. A river runs beside it, and the slightly elevated terrain feels fitting. There were ditches that might be remnants of a moat…but is the well also a surviving structure? It was past 5 in the evening, so I couldn't see the museum inside😅
