Gallery dedicated to one artist Keiyu Nishimura who went to Paris from this area and had great success and support of a mentor there. Was the first Japanese to be awarded a medal in France. Also some other artist’s work are displayed. Amazing building with great views all around. Even a small pitch and putt golf course beside it. There’s a piano in one of the galleries and people are encourage to play it if they find a painting has inspired them.
View on GoogleMy first visit was on July 15, 2024. I came to Kyowa Town to visit 「Myōzenji, the hydrangea temple」, then stopped at 「Kakashi Furusatokan」 because it was opposite Myōzenji. There I was told that the ticket could serve as a discount voucher, so I visited this 「Keiyu Nishimura Memorial Museum」. An artist gaining major recognition overseas and then having a memorial museum built in their hometown is a pattern you often hear about. But since these works could only have been created by that particular person, I was reminded that we should not dismiss it as 「a familiar pattern」 and should see them at least 1 time. The style looks as though it paints flows. At first I thought, 「What is this?」, but strangely it lingers and won't leave my mind. (I'd also like to see the exhibition in Okinawa) What I felt everyone should definitely see is the 「room recreating the studio」. It is separate from the artwork exhibition area, so it seems easy to miss. (I only noticed when I said goodbye to the receptionist and was asked, 「Did you see the studio?」) The 「box painting that became his final work」 is displayed here, and the pink lines on that box painting and the pink paint on the desk used instead of a palette feel poignant. It might be nice to make a circuit about 1 time a year of this 5-stop Kyowa Town set: 「Myōzenji's hydrangeas」, 「Kakashi Furusatokan」, 「Keiyu Nishimura Memorial Museum」, 「Shinsennuma」, and 「Shinsennuma Rest House (including the observation deck)」. (There's currently a campaign with local specialty products as prizes, and I won an ice cream voucher for Shinsennuma Rest House, so it worked out perfectly)
View on GoogleThe 2nd floor with the reception has no air conditioning and is hot, but the exhibition rooms are cool and quiet, so you can take your time looking around. The building is also beautiful and large, and despite it being Obon, there were few people, making it a hidden gem. The self-service water was a nice touch too.
View on GoogleA simple entrance on a hill with sweeping views, a glass-walled corridor, and lightly bouncing colors. The museum's surprising building and artworks create a pleasant space that stirs the senses.😌✨ Currently, letters sent to his family after moving to France, along with artworks and other items, are on display until 2022/2/13 under the title ~Letters from Paris~. The playful painting style, including landscapes and flowers, is delightful.😚💕 JAF members get 100 yen off admission.😉
View on GoogleExceptionally beautiful scenery and a modern building. And so many beautiful, original paintings. I didn't know such a wonderful art museum existed. It's excellent for a short detour when going to Niseko. There is also a park golf course around the museum, so if you come with plenty of time, you can really enjoy the place. A bypass was recently built on the road toward Iwanai, so it no longer passes through the town center, but when heading to this museum, first make your way toward central Kyowa Town. There are signs along the road.
