View on GoogleIt may have been the time of year, but there were hardly any people. While that made it easy to hike, I worried about bears appearing. The area from 神仙沼 through 長沼 was rocky and difficult. Apart from that, I think it's a relatively easy mountain to climb (my 1st year hiking. Number of mountains climbed: 3. With the fitness of someone in their early 50s, it took 3 hours going up and 2 hours coming back). From the summit, you can see 羊蹄山, アンヌプリ, and more. However, a hiker I asked said the other trail has steep slopes. Please take care.
View on GoogleI climbed from 神仙沼レストハウス at midday. About 8km round trip. If you stop by 神仙沼, add just under 1km. Turn toward 長沼 before reaching 神仙沼, then walk along the shore of 長沼. The roughly 3km to the シャクナゲ岳 junction has a slight climb but is mostly flat. However, once you start climbing チセヌプリ itself, the remaining 800m becomes steep, gaining about 270 in elevation all at once. The gradient is a little over 30%, which is pretty tough. There are only low shrubs and nothing to block the sun, and the temperature in ニセコ町 at the foot of the mountain was 31 degrees during the hike, so it was quite exhausting. The 2L of water I brought ran out partway down. I should go earlier in the day. There are quite a few rocky sections throughout the route. On days after rain, it gets very muddy, and there are many moss-covered rocks, so it's slippery. Also, perhaps because there are many wet areas, there are huge numbers of insects up to the シャクナゲ岳 junction, with several spots where winged insects swirl around like swarms of mosquitoes. In summer, this might be a difficult hike for people who dislike insects. The view from the summit is good, and it's flat and spacious, so you can relax. If you climb from the opposite side (チセヌプリ登山口), rather than the 神仙沼 side, it's about 2km round trip.
View on GoogleI took a walk from 長沼〜チセヌプリ〜神仙沼 under clear, sunny autumn skies. It was a 3-hour stroll from 13:00〜16:00.
View on GoogleThe parking lot fills up during bamboo shoot season. You have to park along the road to find a space. The mountain is easy to climb and has nice scenery.
