I recently visited Markie Curry in Kutchan for a local soup curry fix. Overall, it’s a solid, reliable option if you're in the area. I tried the Chicken Soup Curry at Spice Level 6. For me, it was very spicy! My friend bravely ordered Level 10, which was far too hot for my palate, so be careful with the spice scale here! The chicken itself was incredibly soft and tender, though I found the portion size a bit small. Interestingly, my friend’s Pork Soup Curry came with much larger pieces of meat, so keep that in mind when ordering if you’re extra hungry. As for the broth, it was good but didn't necessarily have that 'wow' factor or a distinct 'pop' of flavor compared to others I've had in Hokkaido. It’s a perfectly decent meal, just not life-changing. Payment: They accept cash and PayPay Connectivity: There is no guest Wi-Fi available. Seating: The space is quite small with limited seating. We were lucky and didn't have to queue, but you might need to wait during peak times. Service: The staff was very friendly and welcoming!

Delish soup curry! A few reviews complained about the veg being too thin or rude service, which I found untrue. Pay using cash or pay pay; use the order sheet and follow the menu steps— and enjoy a delicious bowl of soup curry and 13 crunchy, well prepared vegetables. I got the spice level 5 and for me it was a comfortable spice level (I’m ok with mild chilli)

The food here was incredible, super flavourful and a great selection of 13 vegetables as well as tofu and quail egg! If you like spicy though don’t be afraid to go 8+ on the scale. I had a 5 and it was still fairly mild.

I usually always read reviews before visiting and this place had not great reviews. Unfortunately I had to try this because this was the only opened shop serving curry. Not worth it! My comments: 1. The soup is extremely salty! The depth of flavours were bland. Other people in the shop also complained about it being “shuppai” 2. The worst is quantity of vegetables in a city where there is farm everywhere! The peppers were cut so thin almost like wafer as you see in picture. Overall only 2-3 vegetables like cabbage and potato and pumpkin. Others are next to null as if non existent. 3. They no chicken leg as there is some supply issue so all you get is 3 small chicken boneless piece for 1600yen which is very expensive. FYI others shops nearby have chicken leg. This place that 3 small bites of chicken felt worthless as in grocery store you can buy 2kg chicken in 700yen in Niseko. 4. Ordered extra topping of quail egg which is 150yen for 2 piece. Just because the entire place is filled with foreigners and no competition this place is selling a curry worth paying not more than 700yen! Essentially they are making profits worth 90%. Pathetic place

I wanted to taste some authentic Hokkaido soup curry whilst in Kutchan and this spot was perfect. You write your order on a piece of paper. It’s possible to customise the toppings, amount of rice and spiciness level. I ordered 6/10 and it packs a punch 🌶️🌶️ As a vegan, the only option was the vegetarian curry with vegan soup base customisation. It would be nice to have more options but the curry was super tasty and filling. Went for dinner as a walk in group of 3. It is not possible to make reservations in advance and some people were turned away at the door as they were “sold out” of ingredients. So go early. Cash only!
