This is Sōgakudai, one of Hokkaido's best viewpoints for enjoying breathtaking mountain scenery. The panoramic views of the surrounding landscape are spectacular, making it a worthwhile stop for anyone driving through the area. In addition to the stunning scenery, the site features an informative monument and display boards that explain the remarkable history behind the construction of the roads through this rugged region of Hokkaido. Learning about the challenges and achievements involved in building these routes adds another layer of appreciation to the visit. Whether you're interested in photography, history, or simply taking in Hokkaido's magnificent natural beauty, this is an excellent place to stop. Overall, I highly recommend visiting Sōgakudai. The combination of dramatic mountain views and the fascinating history of Hokkaido's road development makes it one of the area's most memorable viewpoints.
View on GoogleA good clear spot for photo taking. Its simply a parking spot along the road from lake akan to tesgikaga town. On a clear day, you can see both Mt. Oakan and Mt. Meakan clearly to the top. These two mountains are also called "Akan no Meotodake". A great place to stop over when you are in the area. With a very good camera and on a clear night you can have a perfect photo of the moutains and the stars.
View on GooglePhenomenal location for milky way photography. You get the galaxy right next to the mountain, with pitch dark skies if you go before moonrise or during new moon.
