Even though most of the exhibits were in English, we thoroughly enjoyed this small museum. It has a really cool basement.
View on GoogleIMPORTANT: To get in, you must go to the small office across the parking lot, next to the large gym building and pay admission there. Then, when you go back to the museum, they will remotely unlock the door for you. There's no English signs, but it's really cool to see anyway!!
View on GoogleWe thought they closed early when we arrived an hour before closing. Turns out a lady from the opposite building, that's fairly far away, was coming and calling out to us to buy tickets from her. Interesting to learn about coal mining and the machines used.

View on GoogleKushiro is a city that prospered through coal mining, and I saw records of the history of coal extraction⛏️ (mechanization) firsthand. The former Taiheiyo coal mine was established in 1917, 109 years ago; from coal's formation〜to commercialization. It stands on a small hill, watching time pass. □Mine interior model. □Coal preparation plant model. □Simulated mine tunnel. □Underground work scenes. These and more are faithfully recreated. Perhaps coal could also be an option compared with oil🛢️.
