View on GoogleThe sweets included in the sets at the cafe on the 2nd floor change to match the exhibition😊 There's a variety, from local sweets to famous ones from outside Hokkaido, so I always look forward to them. The seasonal decorations on the tables are also really cute. It's a quiet, relaxing place to spend some time after the exhibition. Hydrangeas were also blooming in front of the entrance and looked beautiful✨
View on GoogleHokkaido Kushiro Art Museum is a facility that opened in 1998 as a hub for arts and culture in the Kushiro・Nemuro region. Its distinctive feature is its quaint, tranquil red-brick exterior, designed to evoke the former streets of brick warehouses in the center of the port, symbolizing the meeting of the waterfront area's historical context and contemporary art. It builds its collection around three themes, 'visual arts', 'art and nature', and 'region and art', and develops artistic activities reflecting the distinctive character of northern culture. Various special exhibitions and collection exhibitions offer visitors a broad range of artistic experiences. • Original collection themes: Its core themes are image-centered 'visual arts', including photography and video; 'art and nature', focusing on Hokkaido and nature; and 'region and art', encompassing works related to the Kushiro・Nemuro region. These three themes establish the uniqueness of the northern culture the museum seeks to express, offering opportunities to explore distinctive artistic worlds that are difficult to encounter in ordinary art museums. • Multipurpose art hall and cultural outreach: In addition to exhibition spaces, it has an art hall suitable for concerts and lectures, and regularly holds film screenings, seminars, and other events, helping the public encounter diverse artistic genres beyond fine art. These wide-ranging cultural outreach activities expand opportunities for both residents and visitors to engage with art. • Historical reinterpretation through brick architectural design: The building itself is designed to evoke the former brick warehouses of Kushiro Port, harmonizing with the surrounding waterfront scenery and creating a tranquil atmosphere. In particular, simply admiring the exterior and surrounding scenery before entering can provide both historical nostalgia and aesthetic satisfaction. • Practical facilities and educational programs: Along with a corner where visitors can browse art information, it has a free art room and a studio for workshop experiences, enabling active engagement with art beyond simply viewing it. In particular, various educational programs allow visitors to deepen their understanding of art. • 2nd-floor museum cafe: A small tea shop (喫茶コーナー) operates on the museum's 2nd floor, providing a comfortable space to rest after viewing the artworks. It sells coffee carefully drip-brewed after ordering, black tea, and light refreshments such as toast and cookies, allowing visitors to spend leisurely time enjoying the view outside the windows. This tea shop provides a practical service that lets visitors spend time in contemplation amid the museum's tranquil atmosphere.
