### TL;DR Review The Yonemachi Observation Deck offers a simple yet charming vantage point to take in views of Kushiro. Though not perfectly maintained, it provides free, functional binoculars and a peaceful atmosphere, making it a nice spot for those looking to escape the usual tourist crowds. (3/5) ### Full Review **Yonemachi Observation Deck: A Hidden Gem for Quiet City Views** Tucked away from the hustle and bustle of more crowded attractions in the nation, the Yonemachi Observation Deck in Kushiro offers a refreshing change of pace. It’s a simple, down-to-earth spot that provides a surprisingly pleasant experience for those looking to soak in the scenery without the pressure of big-ticket tourist traps. The deck itself sits at a high point overlooking the city, giving you a sweeping view of Kushiro and its surroundings. While the structure is far from extravagant and could use a little more maintenance, it still manages to deliver where it counts: the views. For an added bonus, the observation deck offers long-range binoculars that are free to use—and they work quite well. This is a nice touch, especially for visitors who enjoy spotting distant landmarks or simply taking in the finer details of the city's landscape. The Yonemachi Observation Deck feels unpretentious and inviting, perfect for those who prefer a quieter, more intimate setting to appreciate a destination. It’s a great spot to relax and enjoy the sights without the crowds that often flock to more famous viewpoints. You won’t find gift shops or flashy attractions here, and that’s part of the charm. It’s an ideal stop for travelers looking to stray off the beaten path and experience a more laid-back side of Kushiro. However, the site does show signs of age, and the lack of maintenance might be a drawback for some. The decking could use a refresh, and the signage around the area is sparse, but these are minor issues when compared to the overall experience. What Yonemachi Observation Deck lacks in polish, it makes up for in authenticity and simplicity. The Yonemachi Observation Deck may not blow you away with its facilities or tourist-driven entertainment, but it offers a relaxing spot with great views. It’s perfect for those who enjoy taking the road less traveled and finding quiet moments amidst their explorations. For a peaceful break and an honest look at Kushiro’s cityscape, this spot is well worth a visit. (3/5) --- You can find me on Insta: @imdanielyoon

Stopped by during a trip to Hokkaido. I parked at the Itsukushima Shrine worshippers' parking lot, visited Itsukushima Shrine, and then came here. It's an observation deck inside Yonemachi Park, and the park also has a parking lot. The observation deck sits on a small hill and looks like a lighthouse; there's a telescope too, and you can take in a panoramic view of Kushiro Port and the townscape. It had been foggy all the way from Tomakomai via Cape Erimo to Kushiro, but once I got here I could see blue sky and early-summer scenery, which was really great.

It looked kind of interesting, so I went. A park on Yonemachi hill along the coast of Kushiro City. Since it's on top of a small hill, you can look out over the coastline. It's not a big observation deck, but true to Kushiro being a city of fog, you can see fog hanging over the city. Kushiro Itsukushima Shrine is also nearby. There's also a monument with a poem by Ishikawa Takuboku, among other things. There's a dedicated parking lot too, so access is good.
