Definitely worth visiting for anyone interested in Archaeology.
View on GooglePlease note, this museum is only open from 16 April to 10 November! Otherwise, admission is free and it opens every day from 10h to 16h, except Mondays according to the sign. The forest path (vehicles prohibited) leading to the archaeological site and reconstructed houses, however, is open 24/24.
View on GoogleWe happened to pass by and saw its sign, so we drove in to have a look. The enthusiasm of the older gentleman managing the place rubbed off on us, so we ended up sitting down to watch a film about its history. There are also some models on display and so on. This museum actually has very few visitors, but it provides facilities such as toilets for tourists. You can finish a visit in half an hour. If you're not in a hurry, it's worth stopping by if it's on your way.
View on GoogleIt's a very good exhibition. For archaeological sites, shell middens, and so on, it's more fun to see objects from other regions dating to roughly the same period than to limit yourself to the exhibition at that location! Pottery from around the late Jōmon period starts making my heart race!
View on GoogleEven without going all the way to the archaeological site at the back, you can see reconstructed pit dwellings (?) and a little informational material.
