You can see pools of bubbling mud here, which offer a small glimpse of Hokkaido’s volcanic landscape. Traces of volcanic activity can be found in many places across the island. Bokke itself is interesting, but I especially enjoyed the walking trail leading to it. The path is pleasant and surrounded by beautiful natural scenery. You can also enjoy a clear view of Lake Akan from the area.
View on GoogleA pleasant little walk. From the visitor center, it is about 350 meters along a very easy path through a beautiful forest to reach the bubbling mud pools. There is one group of pools above the lake, followed by another group about 10–20 meters farther on, below the lake. You cannot get very close to them, but they are still interesting to see from a distance. You can continue on a circular route along the lake, for a total walk of about 1–1.5 km. There is also the option of taking a short loop deeper into the forest. The forest is beautiful, and the paths are extremely wide, comfortable, and easy to walk. A pleasant way to spend about an hour in Akan for anyone who enjoys nature.
View on GoogleInteresting place to visit near lake Akan. Watch the nature amazing creations of mud volcano which is always around 100DegC and snow is never deposited here. However there are special species of the plants found around the place which are normally grown in hot weather but somehow due to this volcano they survive. Barricade are done to protect them for research purposes.

View on GoogleFantastic walk to bokke. Its probably the timing that we went. There are very few people around. This is taken in early feb. The hike there is a short one amid the thick layer of snow. But its nothing a hiking boot cant handle. A perfect nice quite walk listening to the nearby birds and wildlife. The mud volcano is very interesting and bubbly. You can hear it from my video. As you get closer, the sulphur smell gets stronger but its not too bad compared to mt lo. At the same park area, i think it offers the best view of lake akan. Just at the corner you can see where the hot spring waters flows into the lake with steam still gushing out. Overall its super peaceful and beautiful.
