Let me introduce the charms of 「ビストロ・ラ・ナチュール(Bistro La Nature)」, a tucked-away French restaurant where Kushiro's food lovers gather. Its biggest attraction is the contrast of **「you can casually drop in wearing everyday clothes, yet the flavors are authentic」**. French dining might sound intimidating, but this place has the homely atmosphere of a 「Western-style diner for adults」 or a 「French izakaya」. Being able to enjoy it casually with chopsticks is why locals continue to love it. Must-try recommendations: Soft, melting 「chicken omurice」 The most popular lunch dish. The egg is so tender it jiggles when you dip in your spoon, and the rice inside is seasoned with paprika powder for a grown-up flavor. One bite will bring out a little 「hehe」 smile. Rich 「seafood doria」 & 「pasta」 Doria with a white sauce full of seafood stock (fumet), or tomato cream pasta with Hokkaido mascarpone and snow crab—these rich flavors that make the most of Hokkaido ingredients are distinctive to Kushiro. In the evening, wine with 「beef tongue stew」 Slowly simmered over 3〜5 days, the beef tongue stew is tender enough to cut with chopsticks. Savoring it slowly with red wine at dinner is how local connoisseurs enjoy it. It's in a white Western-style building in the Ashino residential area, with ample parking. Do come and try a heartwarming dish from a chef so devoted to the area that he even serves 「zantare (Kushiro's specialty fried chicken with sauce)」 from a food truck. Perfect for a special dinner or a lunch to treat yourself!
View on GoogleA reasonably priced French restaurant. I've never been in the evening, but the lunch was carefully prepared. I felt bad about leaving rice, so I asked them to take it away, but with the rice included, I think the portion would satisfy even a student? The crisply fried fish came with a colorful vegetable sauce, and I enjoyed it. Next time, I'd like to try something other than the weekly menu. The vending machine in front of the restaurant also makes it easy to give things a try. Chopsticks were included with the cutlery, which I thought was considerate toward seniors. It was just hard to tell whether the restaurant was open, so I wished they'd put an OPEN sign outside the door.
View on GoogleI learned that we could use the ブックオフ parking lot across the street, which I thought was convenient. It was a little dark and I wondered if they were closed, but I saw the open sign and opened the door. The atmosphere was casual and very classical. Although it's a bistro, they also have pasta for around a thousand yen, and for +400円 you could choose a set addition from 4 items such as soup and salad. Other menu items can also be ordered individually, so I appreciated the freedom to choose. The uni and scallop pasta had a generous portion, the noodles were cooked well, and it showed the chef's skill at bringing out the ingredients. Even at a thousand yen, there were plenty of scallops, although small ones. I'm curious about the steaks and meat dishes, and would like to try other things too. Payment was cash or PayPay.
View on GoogleOur once-a-year splurge, combining our wedding anniversary with a slightly early Christmas celebration. We had the chef's choice full course. Each thoughtfully devised dish brought out the ingredients' flavors through different cooking methods, and all I could say was 「So delicious〜!」. Of course, the wine pairings were perfect too♪ We enjoyed French food & wine in our own amateur way. And the chef's personality. The fresh-faced young part-time waitress's earnest service. Everything was lovely.
View on GoogleWe booked for our family of 4, had the メモワール course customized, and were treated to a delicious and enjoyable time♪ It was lovely that they provided the day's course menu on the table and hand towels even though it was a Western-style course. We had a bottle of Spanish white wine, which was very easy to drink and reasonably priced too. It's a restaurant we'd definitely like to visit again if we get the chance.
