Located just behind Lake Akan in Hokkaido, this Ainu Kotan is a fascinating cultural village where you can learn about the traditions, history, and lifestyle of the Ainu people, the indigenous people of northern Japan. The village features traditional-style buildings, local craft shops, museums, and restaurants where you can experience Ainu culture through handmade crafts, performances, and regional cuisine. It's an engaging place to explore and offers much more than just souvenir shopping. Walking through the village gives you a deeper appreciation of the Ainu people's rich heritage and their connection with nature. Whether you're interested in history, culture, or traditional arts, there's plenty to discover. Overall, I highly recommend visiting if you're staying at or around Lake Akan.
