I visited around 5 pm.They offer both a typical izakaya menu and regular teishoku meals. I ordered the fried chicken teishoku (1150 yen). The chicken was crispy and delicious, and I really enjoyed the side dishes.(I saw an ashtray on the table, so this place may not be non-smoking)
View on GoogleI arrived in Kikonai a little before 7 pm. After checking in at the hotel, I relied on the gourmet map at the hotel to look for somewhere to eat and went around to a Western restaurant, a soba shop, and a sushi shop, but all were closed. Just as I thought I'd have to settle for a convenience store bento, I found a shop whose sign light was off but whose noren was still out. When I opened the door, they said they had just closed. When I asked, "Is there anywhere around here to eat? Everywhere I go is closed," they said "If something simple is fine," and let me in. I ordered the katsudon, which was at the top of the meal menu. It was a full-volume set with katsudon, miso soup, 3 small side dishes, and even a half udon. The taste was spot on. Thank you for rescuing a dinner refugee. If I come to Kikonai again, this is a place I'd like to drink leisurely.
View on GoogleThe inside of the shop was spacious and clean! The food was delicious and the generous portions made me happy! When I ordered hot sake (atsukan), they fine-tuned the temperature, and I appreciated their thoughtfulness. Looking forward to visiting again!
View on GoogleThe shop I had planned to go to wasn't open, and after walking around for a while I went into this one. First I ordered a glass of oolong tea to wet my throat. 280 yen. Then I ordered the horumon set meal and the pork skewer with tare sauce. The horumon nabe set meal came with, besides the horumon nabe, small side dishes of hijiki and agedashi tofu. The agedashi tofu is delicious. The horumon in the horumon nabe is similar to Koteppan. The soup tastes like miso soup. The pork skewer with tare is delicious. The tenderness of the pork and crispness of the green onion are good. If you're ordering, the pork skewer rice box set meal might be better than the horumon nabe set meal.
View on GoogleI've already been here twice. I went because my girlfriend recommended it, and the large menu and the very nice staff made me an instant fan. Recommendations are the stir-fried vegetables, horumon nabe, pork skewers, and so many more I can't list them all. Everything is generous in portion and delicious. The pork skewers are thick, and they go so far as to use chilled pork shoulder loin (as of September 2023). There are many menu items and lots I want to eat, but the portions are big, so I'll have to come many times! R&M
