Came across this place accidentally when sudden hunger struck while driving through Kamishihoro on a Sunday night. I tried the Hamburg curry and it was sweet with plenty of onions. I felt it was very good value for money as it was a large serving. There is also a nice gift shop area.

A Taste of Warmth and Legacy: Ichu Cafe in Hokkaido Driven by hunger and the cold Hokkaido weather, a chance stop at Ichu Cafe (Cafe KITCHEN SINCE 1986) turned into an unforgettable encounter with profound human kindness. The first glimpse promised comfort, with a collection of knick-knacks outside and a welcoming stove inside that fought off the winter chill. The feeling of a family home deepened as we settled in. Quirky decorations filled the space, including charming glass frogs in a cabinet. A simple question about them, wondering if they were from Otaru, sparked a beautiful connection. The food—a rich meat sauce pasta for me and a delicious grilled pork teishoku for my friend—was wonderfully comforting. Then, the true magic unfolded. The elderly proprietress emerged, moved the items in the cabinet, and opened it just to show us more treasures. To our astonishment, she gifted me one of the glass frogs—a gesture of pure, spontaneous gene Beyond the excellent, thoughtfully brewed coffee and the handmade socks and gloves for sale, this place offers something rarer: genuine connection. It’s a testament to a life dedicated to warmth, good food, and treating strangers like family. As we left, thanking the mother and daughter, our hearts were as full as our stomachs. An absolute gem. This place is a beautiful testament to 40 years of heartfelt hospitality. As we drove away, with the mother and daughter waving goodbye from the window, we knew we weren't just customers, but friends welcomed by a beautiful legacy. A heartwarming encounter at "Ichu Cafe," a shop of warmth and legacy in Hokkaido In the biting cold, "Ichu Cafe (Cafe KITCHEN SINCE 1986)" suddenly caught my eye. What began as a chance stop for a quick bite turned into an encounter with a deep warmth I will never forget. Outside the building were packed-in items chosen with care. Step inside, and the warmth of a fireplace that blows away the winter cold welcomes you. The comfort was like coming home to my parents' house, and as I sat down, the unique knick-knacks displayed everywhere caught my eye. What especially caught my attention were the glass frogs in the display cabinet. I couldn't help but call out, "Are these from Otaru? I have some too!", and that was the start of a beautiful connection. While we enjoyed the richly flavored meat sauce pasta and my friend's yakiniku teishoku, the grandma who runs the place moved the items in the display cabinet, went out of her way to open the door to show us the inside, and, to our surprise, gave me one of the glass frogs as a present, saying "Here you go." I was simply filled with gratitude for this sudden act of sincerity. The name "Ichu" apparently comes from the famous monk Ikkyu, and there are decorations of the monk in the shop too. We were also given a lucky Daruma, and heartfelt hand-knitted socks and gloves were on sale. Besides the deliciousness of the carefully brewed coffee, what we tasted here was a "heart that cares for others," passed down over 40 years. At parting, seeing the mother and daughter keep waving at the window until our car left, we felt we were not mere customers but friends welcomed into this beautiful legacy. I would really like many people to know about this sincere shop.

I went to Ikkyu-san in Kamishihoro. I entered around noon on a Saturday. It was my first visit. There were 2 customers before us and 3 after. It's a light-meal cafe with a fireplace. I ordered the classic Napolitan for 850 yen and my partner ordered the meat sauce for 900 yen. It seems to be run by a mother and daughter. The mother seems to be in charge of cooking. The food arrived in about 15 minutes. Served on a sizzling hot iron plate. It tasted like a coffee-shop Napolitan and was ordinarily delicious. When I started eating, there was a fried egg at the bottom! It makes me happy somehow. It feels like I got a bonus. The meat sauce also looked ordinarily delicious. This one also had a fried egg in it. Both the customers before and after us ordered nabeyaki udon. It makes me a bit curious. Thank you for the meal🎵

Stopped by while cosplay cycling in Kamishihoro I wasn't in the mood for a big meal, so I had the hot cake set. It had a somehow nostalgic taste😍 Next time I'll try the teishoku😏
