The meat katsu came with thin noodles crisped and charred on the iron plate, coated in rich meat sauce, and it was super delicious. The curry was pretty sweet. We went in right when it opened. Customers kept pouring in after that; I didn't expect it to be this busy. Glad we went early.

【🍱 Iwamizawa Morupa (モルパ)】 “What's the atmosphere like at a Japanese drive-in (a diner where truck drivers stop by)?” A place that perfectly satisfied that curiosity. It's “Morupa” in Iwamizawa, on the way to Biei via the national route. A historic diner marking its 56th year in business this year. From the moment you open the door, a nostalgic, warm local atmosphere fills the air. Would return: ◯ (Perfect for a detour on a drive) What surprised me most was the overwhelming value and portions. Even the most expensive dish on the menu is a shocking 1,300 yen. In today's Japan, where prices keep rising, a place that serves this much food at this price is truly precious. Unlike the flashy restaurants at tourist spots, it has the warmth and filling satisfaction unique to a local drive-in. A great restaurant I strongly recommend to anyone on a Hokkaido road trip as a place to take a breather during a long journey. Iwamizawa Morupa (モルパ) “What's a Japanese drivers' diner like?” A wonderful place that perfectly satisfied that curiosity. It's “Morupa (モルパ),” located in Iwamizawa on the national route toward Biei. This venerable old establishment, which has held its ground for a full 56 years, lets you feel its distinctive age and homey warmth the moment you step through the door. Would return: ◯ Passing by? Definitely worth stopping at least once! What surprised me most was the price and portions. The most expensive item on the whole menu is just 1,300 yen, shocking value. Considering how much prices in Japan have risen lately, a restaurant offering such generous, hearty sets now feels truly rare nationwide. Different from flashy tourist-spot eateries, it's a place filled with the heartiness and warmth unique to a Japanese local drivers' diner. It's an ideal place to take a short rest on the road and fill up on a hearty meal during a Hokkaido rental-car trip. I'm quietly noting it down and recommending it as a place that will be a pause in a long journey. 【🍱 Morupa (モルパ) in Iwamizawa】 "What is a Japanese roadside diner (kisha shokudo) like?" This place perfectly answered that curiosity. Located in Iwamizawa along the national route toward Biei, 'Morupa' has been welcoming drivers and locals for 56 years. Revisit: ◯ (A great roadside stop!) What shocked me most was the unbeatable value. The absolute most expensive item on the menu is just 1,300 JPY. Given the recent inflation in Japan, finding a restaurant that offers such generous portions at this price point feels like discovering a rare gem. It has that authentic, unpretentious, and hearty atmosphere of a traditional Japanese trucker's diner. If you are taking a road trip through Hokkaido, I highly recommend stopping by to refuel during your long journey.

We stopped by since none of us had been here before. Everyone got the lunch set menu. I had the fried shrimp and pork fillet cutlet set for 1250 yen. I chose salt for the mini ramen. Two pieces each of crispy fillet cutlet and fried shrimp. Generous portions, very satisfied.

I ordered the liver and garlic chive stir-fry set for 1200 yen. As others have written, the portion was generous. Unfortunately, the taste was just so-so, and I thought I should have gotten the meat katsu. The place is very crowded, and there don't seem to be other restaurants around. The parking lot is also large, so no worries about parking. Whether I'll come again is questionable.

I took part in the Hokkaido Flea Market, held again in Naganuma like last year On the way home I looked for a place to have lunch Maybe because it was Saturday, everywhere was really crowded After giving up several times, I ended up at Morupa I feel like I've seen this restaurant on National Route 12 since I was a kid, whenever we headed to Sapporo, and I think I saw it in a magazine a few years ago too Maybe because I searched for it on Google lately it's been showing up on my Instagram too I arrived around 1:30 PM The parking lot is large, so I parked in a gap Inside is spacious too, with counter, table, and raised tatami seating There are all sorts of dishes The lunch menu has things like a tendon and ramen set that I've rarely seen before but I went with the fried chicken karaage set I'd seen in that magazine Customers kept arriving one after another I couldn't find it on the menu but there's something called a yakiniku corner so it seems you can enjoy yakiniku too After a little while the food arrived About 5 surprisingly large pieces of karaage on the plate with salad, pickles, and miso soup First I sipped the miso soup The miso soup had green onion and wakame, with green onion floating on top and just as it looked, I could taste the green onion When I bit into a piece of karaage it was piping hot and scalded the inside of my mouth I didn't taste much garlic or ginger aroma or saltiness The skin was crispy The macaroni salad looked unlike any I've seen maybe homemade This too didn't have much saltiness or mayonnaise flavor I think this restaurant has been in business a long time so there are many older customers too maybe that influences the flavor but I felt they make each dish one by one in the restaurant A restaurant I'd known since childhood I finally got to visit as an adult There are still many things you can only do once you grow up The keychain I saw on Insta is 500 yen Thank you for the meal, I'm truly grateful
