I only know it from photos, but it's an appealing building. The artworks displayed in a building like this must be happy🙇
View on GoogleThis art museum uses the former 岩見沢警察署 building. It displays works by 松島正幸, plus special exhibitions. On my recent visit, 松島正幸's works were on the 1st floor and the special exhibition on the 2nd, but 4 years ago the special exhibition was on the 1st floor, so it seems to change depending on the exhibition. Different works by 松島正幸 were displayed than on my previous visit, so they seem to be rotated regularly. Admission is 210円, but you can also browse all the art books on the 2nd floor, so I think it's enjoyable if you have time to spare. The building is old, which is nice for retro enthusiasts like me, but be aware that the climate control isn't good. It's not impossible to walk from the station, but it's a little far.
View on GoogleThe works by 松島正幸, the occasional special exhibitions, and the historic building are all wonderful. I think this facility deserves to be appreciated and enjoyed by more people. Please do visit. Photography inside is also allowed.
View on Google2024.7 I had visited 岩見沢市 for work but had never really looked around to see what kind of place it was. This time, I searched Google maps for art museums, archives, and museums, and visited this one. It occupies the former 岩見沢警察署 building, built in reinforced concrete in 1932. When I happened to visit, I heard violin music and thought it was BGM, but it was a rehearsal for a live performance. The exhibition of 松島正幸's works featured many paintings of ports in Japan and abroad. Among them, I was particularly struck by the powerful depiction of 桜島 beyond the 鹿児島 cityscape, probably viewed from 城山 (zoomed in compositionally). Reading his brief biography, I felt a connection because he had attended the same elementary school as my grandfather and his siblings, my father and his siblings, and me. I was never good at music, even in elementary school music classes, but my father's male cousin was a violinist. I remembered the story of how, before the war, he had set up a music room for practice on the top floor of his concrete home and shop facing 札幌市南四条通り, and decided to enjoy the music after viewing the paintings. The pieces sounded familiar, and it was very good. I think this is an excellent facility, with programs that connect with residents through painting and music.
View on GoogleI listened to a 「woodwind quintet」 performed by students of 教育大岩見沢校. I viewed the exhibition by 生田直弘. It was very good.
