View on GoogleI visited during the summer public opening. Apparently, visits outside summer require a reservation. Admission is free. I learned about the history of flood control in the 石狩川 basin. Recommended for anyone interested in the history of 石狩川 or erosion control. Behind the museum is 「石狩川歴史の森」, where you can stroll around and view exhibits. (Visited 2025/8)
View on GoogleActually, the top floor houses the control facility for the sluice gate that sends water from 茨戸川 directly into the sea during floods. When it operates, it means a once-in-10-years-level flood is occurring and the situation is quite dangerous.
View on GoogleIf you're interested in flood control, I think you'll find this super interesting. Learning here and at the visitor center near 石狩灯台 should make traveling around 石狩川 more fun.
View on GoogleIt's right near 佐藤水産 and free to visit. Inside, it's larger than I expected, and you can learn all sorts of things about rivers. I didn't know you could ride a river survey boat, so I'd like to make a reservation and visit again next time.
