A local history museum housed in a closed school building. The exhibits are divided by category into separate rooms, making them easy to view. For somewhere you can visit for free, the collection is substantial, and there is also a hands-on area.

A little over ten kilometers north of central Ikeda Town, it uses the former Takashima Junior High School building. Excavated materials such as pottery and stone tools, industrial materials related to agriculture and forestry, education, and household items are displayed in separate rooms. The railway-related collection is also extensive. The items are not simply lined up; they have proper captions and other explanations. There are quite a lot of exhibits, so you will need plenty of time to examine them carefully. Admission was free.

This is a museum in Ikeda Town. It is free, and since a closed school building is used as the exhibition facility, I could also enjoy the nostalgic school atmosphere. There are distinctive exhibits you do not find in typical local museums, such as materials about the Furusato Ginga Line. Because of the bus schedule, I could only look around for about 30 minutes, but I think there is enough to spend more than 1 hour exploring.

A museum using a closed school! It was great to take my time looking at both the school building and the various materials!

The area’s history, elementary school mergers and closures, old household appliances, and exhibits of items that played a role in the community are housed in separate classrooms by category. A local history museum with quite a lot worth seeing.
